Just kidding. It was a ton of fun! I spent three and a half days with my friends and enjoyed just about every minute. We didn't go to any panels and only really went to the con center - which was connected to our hotel via a skyway - only went to check out cosplayers, the dealer's room, and artist's alley.
Pictures are here. Click the links on the left for the categories. Some of them are Lola's; she borrowed my camera from time to time as hers got stolen at the concert. Some of my favorite cosplayers are the Miku, the Asuka, and the Kamen Rider.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/…Got there early Thursday morning via the commuter trains and there were already people lined up to get their badges o_o I was the first one there, and throughout the day I met up with Lola, Mitsu, Colin, El, and later that night, Kitsu. Even though we all brought tons of stuff, we spent too long in the hot weather looking for someplace to buy video and audio cables to hook our stuff up to the TV. XD; But we did get our badges early, about midday, thanks to our VAMPS concert tickets. Lola went on down to the venue where the concert was going to be, and managed to get Hyde's signature and shake the man's hand! Hopefully a moment she won't forget. After unwinding a bit in our hotel, we all went down to the market and got some delicious crabcakes.
Some time after, we went to concert venue and waited in line some more with some friendly ladies. I was glad I brought earplugs for everybody, because even before the concert started the music was pounding! And once the actual band came on, it was total chaos. Even though I had my earplugs in the whole time, I still had to put my hands over my ears and I could still hear and feel every note. It was a fairly small club, so most of us stayed in the bleachers or around the back where the DJ, bar, and food was. They had free water which was definitely appreciated. I mostly hung out around the back and appreciated the male:female ratio... there were even a couple Japanese chicks, one with dyed pink hair, who were dancing and headbanging the whole time. I'll admit I kept my eye on them just about as much as the show on stage! I didn't know any of the songs, so I didn't have any connection to them, and I didn't recognize Hyde until he started singing because of his poofy hairstyle. And to appease all the fangirls there, he took his shirt off for the encore.
We all got as much sleep as we could. We were pretty wiped out and the con hadn't even started! On Friday I wore my TF2 Medic cosplay. I didn't have any weapon, but what I did have were some big, thick red rubber gloves that looked just like they came from a cartoon. Also, with the dress shirt and tie, I felt I was one of the best dressed people in our group. XD; Got quite a few compliments on it, lots of "MEDIC!!", even got a polite hug from a chick cosplaying a Soldier. I jumped in to a random TF2 group here and there while people took pics which was a lot of fun! And of course Lola, the person who demanded I was a natural for the character, really liked it.
Later that day, we all watched Antique Bakery in our hotel, which I managed to fall asleep during despite it being quite entertaining and the hoots and hollers from my friends watching it. And that night, I put on some G1 Transformers episodes I brought from my new DVD set; this was a great idea as their general silliness really translated well to group MSTing and there were lots of laughs!
Saturday's highlight for me was the sushi restaurant we went to. I had never had non-california roll sushi before and it was a real treat. Plus, they played j-rock for the background muzak, how great is that. Later on I went to the dealer's room and got quite a few things! My favorite are the squishy vynil pac-man toys.. five bucks each, with the last free 'cause I bought the whole set. XD And that Kula statue is something I've wanted for years but the store that went out of business. Saturday night was really cool weather, we had dinner by the water. Oh, and we finally got to see Watchmen together that night!
Sunday was more than just sad goodbyes, we actually got to spend quite a bit of time together. Lola met one of her WoW buddies who sadly turned out to be a real creep. And on the way home, on a train stop at both Baltimore and DC, I met this cute raver girl who went to the con... we seemed to have quite a bit of our tastes in common in that we both didn't really watch anime anymore and just went to hang out with friends... but as we were hitting it off in conversation I found out she was too young for me. >____< Figures. Oh well, at least I'm not totally antisocial?
Took Monday off, which was a really good idea. Got lots of rest. Didn't have too much catching up to do at work, as the guy who covered for me did a good job. One of copiers did manage to break really bad, hopefully it has been repaired by now. I've got a meeting late tommorow morning at another campus, so that should be a little bit different.
As much as I don't like going back to the grind, at least I don't have to cram and prepare for this con anymore? :D That said, I'm still in a con going mood... I plan on going to Anime USA this year, it's only a few metro stops away. I plan to go by my lonesome and stay there for the weekend so I don't have to be on the train constantly. We'll see what hijinks ensue, but allready I'm fairly excited for it.
