Abstract

Gender Violence is a form of violence which takes place against any individual on the basis of gender. Out of all forms of this violence, Cyber-bullying is one of the most prominent form of violence taking place in today’s world. It is a form of violence which has started taking place through online mode through social media. Social media has indeed brought the world closer and facilitated communication in an extensive manner. People communicate frequently with users who are known to them or unknown to them. Violence against women has been taking place since time immemorial both via offline and online. Trolling and using derogatory comments are some of the forms of Sexual Abuse using digital technology. Social media has become a common platform of sending and receiving casual messages in the form of audio, video, live conversation in virtual form. Some of such free and casual conversations leads to online trolling, and bullying the other user which can be considered as Cyberbullying. One of the basic advantage from the point of view of the abuser of this form of violence is that the culprit is usually unknown who prefers maintaining anonymity. Taking its advantage, the abuser gets away with his/ her crime. This paper is an attempt to understand the concept of Cyberbullying, its types and its impact among the victims.
