PICSPAM: SPACED

Spaced is one of my favorites shows ever, so a while back I made my very first official picspam featuring the series. It's such a funny show, with amazing characters that you can really relate to, even though they're crazy.

Simon Pegg, celebrated this week the 10th anniversary of the series premiere, so it was just fitting that I re-posted this picspam. Spaced is over, there'll be no more, but we can still remember the laughs.

Spaced is a TV series that aired on Channel 4 from 1999 to 2001. Created by Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, the episodes were directed by Edgar Wright, yes the same guy who directed Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. SWEET. It also stars Nick Frost a.k.a. Simon Pegg's BFF.

The cool part is that many familiar faces pop up while you watch! Let's begin.

Spaced begins when Tim (Pegg) and Daisy (Stevenson) are "forced" to pretend they're a couple so they can rent a flat. They've only known each other for a few days, so it turns out to be quite a challenge to live together and interact with friends and family, jobs and life.

The Main Characters

WHY? Just... give me a reason. You think I'm unemotional, don't you? I can *be* emotional. Jesus, I cried like a child at the end of Terminator 2.

Simon Pegg plays Tim Bisley. He works at a comic book store, and he's actually writing his own comic series, just waiting for the right opportunity. He loves videogames, Star Wars and Buffy (so much so, you'll laugh). When his girlfriend Liz leaves him for another guy, he accepts Daisy's offer to pretend they're a couple so they can rent a flat.

Jessica Stevenson (now Jessica Hynes), plays Daisy Stiner. She's a struggling writer, when she does sit down to write. She's funny and good-natured, and maintains a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend of several years. She convinces Tim to pretend they're a couple so they can apply for a great apartment in London.

The Best Friends

Don't forget whose shoulder you cried on when the last one dumped you.

Nick Frost plays Mike, Tim's best friend. Mike is obsessed with the army, ever since he got kicked out of it when he stole a tank to invade France. TRUE STORY. He met Tim when they were kids, so they've grown up together and are total BFFs.

Daisy. Don't you look nice? Bit of a midriff show. Big's in this season. Good for you.

Katy Carmichael plays Twist, Daisy's best friend. She's into fashion, and tells people she's in the fashion industry, although she works at a dry-cleaners. Her appearance is what takes up most of her time, and looks are the most important thing. She's a good friend, apparently. :p

The Other Characters

I see my ex girlfriends. Well, not so much "see" as "watch"...

Mark Heap plays Brian, an artist who lives right below Tim and Daisy's apartment. He quickly becomes friends with the fake-couple, and brings a lot of funny moments to the pot (especially everytime he explains what kind of things he paints). He has some hidden history with the landlady, too.

Come back in one piece, Brian. You know which piece I'm talking about

Julia Deakin plays Marsha, the landlady. She lives with her daughter, Amber, and always carries a cigarette in her hand. A heavy-drinker, she is one of Tim and Daisy's closest friends in the building, helping them go through different things. It's hard to notice, but Julia had a small part in Hot Fuzz. See if you can find her!

The Guest Stars!

Familiar faces? YES!

The Funneh

Daisy: Right, I'm going to the shops. D'you want anything?
Tim: Porn.
Daisy: Tim, I'm not going to buy you porn. You can get it from railway sidings like everybody else.
Tim: I can't, I'm an adult. I'm supposed to leave it there.

Daisy: So who was this girl then?
Tim: Her name was Cassandra, she was a psychic, she gave me her phone number...
[hands Daisy a piece of paper]
Daisy: That's OUR phone number.
Tim: Man, she's good.

Tim: No hard feelings.
Duane: You shot me in the bollocks.
Tim: Like I said, no hard feelings.

Daisy: You have a potentially fatal allergy to brazil nuts.
Tim: Yes, I have no memory of Christmas 1979. Mind you, I've got no memory of Christmas 1994 either.
Daisy: Why?
Tim: I don't know.

[Daisy answers phone]
Daisy: Oh hi Mike. Yeah, he's here, I'll just get him.
[to Tim]
Daisy: It's your boyfriend.
Tim: He's not my boyfriend.
[picks up phone]
Tim: Hi babe.
Mike: Hello Timmy.

Tim Bisley: You ready, Mike?
Mike Watt: I was born ready, Timmy.
Tim Bisley: Yeah, but are you ready now?
Mike Watt: Uhh... yeah.

Man: I always fancied myself a bit as a soldier
Tim: Yeah, I've always fancied myself
Mike: I always fancied you
Tim" Not here!

Tim: My mom used "going next door" as a euphemism for being dead
Mike: Whoa... so my rabbit is dead?
Tim: Well, it's been 18 years, Mike, where did you think he was?
Mike: next door!

Daisy:: ...and you masturbate to pictures of Gillian Anderson
Tim: who told you that?!
Daisy: It was a joke!
Tim: Well, just so you know Gillian Anderson had the sexiest body in the world in 1996.
Daisy: What about you?
Tim: I wasn't placed

Daisy: So how are you, you big bloody man?
Tim: I'm good, I'm good. Just, had a few things to sort out.
Daisy: With Sarah?
Tim: No, with George Lucas.
Daisy: Tim, it's been over a year.
Tim: It's been 18 months, Daisy. And it still hurts.
Daisy: Well, I didn't think The Phantom Menace was *that* bad.

Daisy Steiner: What do you mean you have a funny feeling?
Tim: I can read her like a book
Daisy Steiner: Never judge a book by it's cover
Tim: He who dares wins
Daisy Steiner: Look before you leap
Tim: Do YOU believe in life after love?
Daisy Steiner: That's a song
Tim: Shit.

And some funny pictures
