(I did use #Arch, but I changed. I just still wanted the "by the way" but

jump to recentI'm just gonna claim to be the west bank of the #RiverExe 's leading expert in #Linux #BSD and, for the sake of it, #Mikrotik
(This may look like a brag, but it's not, it's a clever ploy to encourage other Linux and BSD folk in my local area to speak up so we can all go out for a beer or something
(But if nobody speaks up I'm still claiming that title))
Well there.
I've done it.
I've released the first version of my Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy mod for @Luanti
https://codeberg.org/pswilde/h2g2_luanti
or, a pending review link on ContentDB
https://content.luanti.org/packages/paulwilde/h2g2/
The nodes and tools are waaaaaaaay overpowered, but that's all part of the fun!
(whispers: @rl_dane ... of course it's live on the server already

oh people, I really do dislike emoji list markers
Stop it, please.
Never though I would like just a standard bullet pointed list so much
It's just oh so refreshing
Easy on the eyes, nice and clear, focused, no distractions.
Got a Raspberry Pi 4 (1GB) for less than £40...now, what shall I do with it...
Ah yes, of course, #FlightRadar24 receiver!
The best thing about "AI" is it has completely replaced the "That's been photoshopped" statement we used to see everywhere.
Although, I'm not sure this replacement is actually that much better.
Anyone else using #Conversations.im (the XMPP service, not specifically the app) getting TLS negotiation failed errors?
Just wondering if they're having issues right now or if it's me.
Looking through pictures on an estate agent website thinking "something is up with these images" and of course I had suspicions.
Then an image comes along with a "Enhanced by AI..." watermark in the corner.
Well, yep, there we go.
How on earth am I supposed to trust you now?! I need to see the imperfections!
Someone is going to say "you can just go and see the place" but when it's a fair distance a way, I think they need to sell that idea to me. Instead I feel deceived, unable to trust.
"AI Music Creator" followed me
#Instablock
AI builders have spent a lot of time, money and resources to emulate the human brain without stopping to think the human brain may not actually be a good thing to emulate
I wonder if #xkcd knows Aviva are using correct-horse-battery-staple as an example password in their cyber training videos.
OK, #Fedibrain
Looking for a system that can be used to upload application documents and media (video) to a secure location, or to provide a form entry page that can be the "document" and allow for video upload alongside it.
It should all, of course, be private and only the uploader/applicant and business owner are able to see the uploaded documents.
Thinking something like #Moodle, with the business owner like the "teacher" and the applicant like the "student"... but that just isn't quite the right fit and probably overkill.
I can't really say what it's going to be used for, but the uploader could be any member of the public (therefore the ability to create an account is necessary).
Anyone have any recommendations?
Ranty long(ish) post about processors, "AI" and marketing of said CPUs
I'm having real trouble considering whether the #AMD Ryzen AI CPU line is worth it
From what I can tell, the benchmarks are decent... you get a lower base clock speed than a standard Ryzen CPU, but the boost is about equal.
The lower clock speed is... possibly fine, the CPU uses less power because of this I suspect, and I don't intend on running anything too intensive, but I certainly don't want the CPU boosting all the time and end up using more power anyway (Concern No. 1)
They have lower clock speed because, I believe, the CPU has NPU cores which "take the place of" the addition base clock ability (or words to that effect). I've done some reading on NPU cores, trying to keep actual "AI" out of it (difficult) and I don't think they offer me any actual benefit - I don't need faster video processing features on teams calls etc. at least not to the extent where I want to sacrifice base performance for it (Concern No. 2) or if the software I'd use even could use the NPU cores (Concern No. 3)
They have fricking "AI" in the effing name!! (Concerns No.s 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 all the way up to a million or so). If you want to put NPUs on your chips then so be it, I'm tired of this fight, but just by having "AI" in the name I do not want to buy your product. Honestly, I'm considering buying the #Intel Core Ultra line, which probably has the equivalent "AI" features, but doesn't suggest I am a user of "AI" at the same time.
Marketing certainly has had an effect, but not the one I expect they were hoping for!
I thought the mouse pointer was feature complete
If anyone is trying to buy anything from comms-express I apologise but I think I just took the website down by accidentally clicking the "donate my points to charity for the value of £5" twice.
UKPol, Green Party
Well done to the #GreenParty for gaining seats at the local elections!
Special well done to my sister and her fellow councillor (both Green) who absolutely wiped the floor with the competition in their area!
Now I just need to convince the English green party to have a presence on the fediverse like the @ScottishGreens do!
As is customary to do so on the fediverse, I have updated the emoji next to my name to reflect the systems I use in order of "most touched"
I use #AlpineLinux, by the way... Switched my laptop over a few weeks back, and office PC over today.
(P.s. I still love #Arch and can boot back into it if needed, but systemd is doing my head in)
((P.p.s. : I want to use a base system, not a "Arch without systemd" distro, so shush)
Is it just me, or is googly maps really sucky on librewolf/firefox at the moment?
Fine if I open a chrome-based browser, but librewolf is really jerky.
Right, now, you've all had your fun. Now for some serious facts.
The "May the fourth be with you" thing we celebrate was [seemingly] first used by the UK conservative party to congratulate Margaret Thatcher on being elected as the British Prime Minister on the May 3rd 1979 election.
And basically it was all downhill from there.
I was writing one of my stupid techie and ranty ramblings yesterday and had to write about GPT
No, not that one... #GUIDPartitionTables .
Why do all of our acronyms get taken from us!?
