musesfool: the ocean (your ocean refuses no river)
Hawaii Five-0

Honestly, I still don't like McGarrett all that much - though it helps if you laugh at him for being the world's biggest Mary Sue - but I do not understand how they mean Steve and Danny's relationship to be read if they're not intending them to be boyfriends. minor spoilers )

So my mother is back in the hospital for observation. They drained another 2+ liters of fluid from the lining of her lungs this afternoon, and they're observing her to try to see what's causing the fluid retention. They have some procedure they can do that is meant to prevent it from happening again, but I guess they're waiting to see if they can figure out what is actually happening first. I find the whole exercise frustrating and anxiety-inducing.

Also, I went to the dentist today, and then I stopped off at Home Depot on the way home to get a screen for my living room window, so now I have the window open. Also, for the first time in ages, I feel warm enough to sit around without having to wear big fleecy socks. Is spring finally showing up? Please?

Back at work, and meh. It's January. Can we just skip to mid-March? I am so over this whole gray and gross January-February thing we've got going on, and until I can somehow magically afford to be someplace warm and sunny instead of soul-killing, I'd rather just skip the whole thing.

Castle was adorable last night, though spoilers )

My DVR failed to record Hawaii Five-O, even after it specifically reminded me that it was going to record it ("Press A to accept this recording" *presses A*), so I guess I will have to acquire it. Technology! Why do you continue to thwart me? *shakes fist* I wish I could be as fannish about it as so many of you are, but I still don't like McGarrett enough for that.

In other TV watching news, I've been slowly working my way through Justice League episodes, and last night, I watched one where they went back to WWII, and was amused to see that there was some suspension of the 'no killing bad guys' rule when it came to Nazis. Not that it wasn't made clear that many of them survived (all those parachutes blossoming from exploding aircraft), but still, I'm pretty sure some of those guys did not make it, and that was due to Our Heroes taking care of business.

Also, all the guns! No wonder Batman had to stay in the narrative present! (he was the leader of the resistance! Even though his Bat-helmet didn't have any eye-holes. I did love the quick glimpse of mullet!Dick and Babs smooching.) He would not have been pleased (if you are picturing him glaring and saying, "GL, I AM DISAPPOINT," you would be in the same place I am. Hi.). And it gave us that long, awkward hug from Superman and then his (Superman's, I mean - I am having a hard time imagining Batman having an adorably sheepish expression, unless it's Dick Grayson!Batman [all of whose expressions are probably adorable], which this was not) adorably sheepish expression afterward when they all got back. *smushes them together like the old married couple they are* Also, John Stewart joined up with Easy Company! Which reminded me it's probably time for a Band of Brothers rewatch.

And T-Rex ties it all together today by calculating the expected real-life Batman generation rate.

*dies*

I amuse myself, at any rate.

Gah. Still six hours of the work day to get through.

Ahahahaha, SENSEI PING was on this week's H50. Also, nice to see Will Yun Lee again.

Like most everyone on my flist/rlist, I am upset that delicious is going the way of the dodo (there are various discussions going on and I am too lazy to link to all of them, but I know there is talk in various places of creating a fannish version or merging it with the AO3 bookmarking system etc. and I would be on board with either of those options or something we haven't thought of yet). I did upload my bookmarks to pinboard (I am http://pinboard.in/u:victoria.p there - please share your user names so i can start rebuilding my network - god, I use delicious to find fic all the damn time; what am I going to do now? I suppose I need to read through all the Tim/Kon people have linked over there before it goes away *clutches fic possessively*), though I still have to decide what to do with my fic index - can I have two accounts at pinboard attached to the same email address? (More importantly, do I want to pay another $7 if that's not where fandom lands? I can afford it, but it's the principle of the thing, you know?) Though I suppose I could use the unfit email for the fic index. Hmm...) But I'd rather not have to log out to save to one or the other. Usually I use two different browsers to manage that, but having it as a choice would be nice. Right now I'm at home on the netbook, so I might have to dl Chrome to do that, because my laptop is at the parents' since I'm going to be there for the weekend at least, and probably longer.

I can't deal with change. I do not like it, Sam I Am.

I can't tell if this entry makes sense or not, and I do not care.

*goes back to reading about Tim and Kon*

musesfool: kalinda sharma (the good wife) (worth a thousand words)
Man, how is The Good Wife so consistently awesome? spoilers )

You know, I think the thing about this show is that it is very tense. I have to gear up to watch it. I don't always know what's going to happen next, and the stakes are pretty high for the characters I like most, so it makes me uncomfortable sometimes to watch in that way that you know it's possible things aren't going to work out well, or work out how you think they should. It's an exhilarating viewing experience, to say the least. And except for the unfortunately stupid Florrick kids, nearly everyone acts like an adult in the workplace. It is SO REFRESHING. Plus, it's FULL OF WOMEN - despite the heavyweight presence of Peter Florrick, Glenn Childs, Eli Gold, and Will Gardner (and the flyweight presence of Cary *snerk*), the women are all drivers of the action and the plots center around them and their responses to events, with the men on the periphery. As I said, it is SO REFRESHING.

I also dl'd and watched Hawaii Five-O and wow, was it series of fandom collisions. guest star spoilers )

So, lemon buns. These are weird, because they are very definitely like yeasty dinner rolls, except sprinkled with sugar and having a citrusy flavor (I used fiori di Sicilia instead of lemon oil, which meant my hands smelled heavenly all day), which my taste buds find a really odd combination. I might make them again without the citrus flavoring and just eat them as rolls. As it is right now, I am contemplating picking up some strawberry preserves or maybe making some lemon curd to eat with them, because otherwise, I don't really know what to do with them. Warm with butter might also be the way to go.

Anyway, they are very easy, though they do require two ~90 minute rises.

I feel like buns is kind of a misnomer, because with the exception of hotdog/hamburger buns, I always think of buns as sweet, and while these have a whiff of sweetness about them, they really are more like rolls. Hmm...

I was annoyed yesterday to think that I'd miss Fringe tonight because of my stupid cable outage, but then I realized that it wasn't on this week anyway, so I am not missing anything. Woo!

musesfool: morgan/garcia=OTP of adorable flirtiness (let my love open the door)
Wow, I am really sleepy.

Had a lovely dinner with [profile] harriet_spy this evening, and she sent me home with a handful of Robin and Nightwing-related comics. Heh.

I posted a story this afternoon:

Have You Heard the One About...
Under the Red Hood; Dick/Jason; pg; 1,495 words
"Have you heard the one about--" "I already told you, I've heard them all."

Because somehow, in the middle of the night last night, it seemed like a good idea. [profile] harriet_spy assures me that this is normal in the early days of one's adoration of Dick Grayson, so I'm not going to fret too much about it. (And it's not like I've ever avoided a good - or bad - dick joke in my stories before, so...)

Yesterday, I watched a lot of TV. Here are some brief thoughts:

Glee
spoilers ) Basically, I'm only keeping up with this now for the music and to keep up with the chatter on my flist.

Criminal Minds
I wasn't in the mood to watch it on Wednesday, but then I heard it was Garcia-focused, so I needed to watch it. spoilers ) Where is the fic about Garcia teaming up with Hardison to rule the world? There should be lots and lots of it.

Hawaii Five-O
spoilers ) The show is what it is, and it's very good and enjoyable at being what it is, but I can't help but wish for more Chin and Kono and less McGarrett.

I also finished off my viewing of Batman Beyond. I ended up really liking the series (Terry! ♥), but I don't have to count Epilogue as canon, right? Because I would really like it to not be a part of canon at all, especially Terry's descent into batdickery. WTF was that about? Ugh. Anyway, what I really noticed about the series is how much ...warmer Bruce is as an old man. Possibly because everybody he ever loved walked away from him? I don't know. Still, though, I kept wishing that we'd see Bruce on the phone at some point and it would be revealed that he was talking to Dick. I realize that for the premise of the show to work, Bruce has to be alone at the start, but even so, that estrangement was more painful than I expected it to be.

At some point I might talk about Return of the Joker, which I thought was really well done for what it is, but which I'm ambivalent about, for various reasons I can't quite articulate yet (and which I don't think are related to my lack of investment in Tim).

musesfool: Steve and Bucky in the Alps (i'm your gun)
So last night with dessert, I had an iced mochaccino, and even though I thought I'd eaten enough to make it not a problem, I was up until 4:30 am, and then I was awake at 7:30 am. Caffeine + PMS-insomnia = no sleep for victoria. Sigh.

It did give me time to watch all the stuff that was backlogged, so, in brief:

Bones

spoilers )

Undercovers

This remains utterly adorable. Not very deep, but adorable enough that I don't care, even if I still wish it was more about the catering business. Anyway. spoilers )

*

Hawaii Five-O

spoilers ) Say what you want about this show, but I think its writers know exactly what it is and exactly what people watching it want to see, and they delivered.

Yesterday, I also watched the three part s4 finale of Teen Titans, which I really liked a lot. And which also totally cemented the whole three-way Robin/Starfire/Raven thing that I have in my head. I am not going to look for fic, because I find the idea terrifying, but I'm totally going to enjoy imagining the three of them negotiating a relationship. Plus, Slade! Being awesome! Am I supposed to like him as much as I do? Because I really do. I mean, in a villainy way. S5 is not available by my usual methods, and looking at the episode summaries, I'm not sure I'm really interested in watching it? But I did find and dl the origins episode, which made me find more room in my heart for Beast Boy and Cyborg, whom I've liked but mostly not loved, so that was good. Beast Boy! So adorably sad and looking for a team to join! Oh, heart.

I so did not expect it, but this show completely hit several of my narrative kinks like a hammer and I'm really glad I watched it, or most of it, anyway. Enough that I'm giving it its own tag, even. I'll have to track down a used copy of the movie, since that is also not available from my usual sources.

*

Now, perhaps, instead of going looking for icons of H50 or the Blooms (or Lisa and Dean), I should shower and make an attempt to do something useful. Or maybe just go see a movie. *snerk* (Though if you know where good icons of any of those are to be found, drop me a comment.)

In other news, yesterday's poll was nearly unanimous, so I did end up ordering the pans, even though Crate and Barrel charges an exorbitant amount for shipping. I'm excited! Fancy roasting pans! Yay!

musesfool: Mal with gun (i aim to misbehave)
Too much TV! Brain melting!

Chuck

spoilers )

Then I watched Lone Star, mostly on the strength of good reviews and Adrianne Palicki's presence. But meh, I will not be tuning in again. I think it was very well done and something I have absolutely no interest in watching.

Hawaii Five-O

Wow, this is a very guy show, isn't it? Also, wow, could they have made McGarrett more of a Mary Sue if they'd tried? I can only imagine how people would complain about all his qualifications if he were a woman. ANYWAY. Turk Malloy, aka, Scott Caan, is Danno, and obviously, the presence of Grace Park and the hottitude of Daniel Dae Kim are also selling points. Plus, the theme song, which will probably never get out of my head now. spoilery )

Castle

I'm not sure about Beckett's hair, but I have to say a serious NO on those shoes. Jesus, what the fuck is that? I wish more lady law enforcement types wore boots like Olivia Dunham. ANYWAY. spoilers )

Wow, that was a lot of tv. I wish Castle and Hawaii Five-O weren't on at the same time. Sigh.
