musesfool: Steve & Thor (valhalla i am coming!)

this town is a lonely town

Ugh, work today was stupidly, unexpectedly busy, meaning I had no time to write, so I still don't know what I'm doing for my birthday story. I know all y'all don't care, so I shouldn't fuss about it, but I like to post a story on my birthday. Sigh. there's still time.

In other news, I did in fact like A Week to Be Wicked more than I liked A Night to Surrender, and after reading the excerpt, I feel like the third book, A Lady By Midnight, will also hit my personal bulletproof narrative kinks. Sadly, it doesn't come out until September. Sigh.

I've also been reading The Mighty Thor, at least, whatever volume this is that started fairly recently. Mostly because I wanted the Thor-kid!Loki reunion I was denied in Journey Into Mystery, which I didn't quite get. I've been enjoying it, though Thor on the page doesn't have the same wry adorableness that Chris Hemsworth gives him in the movies. I still like him, though. And Volstagg is a hoot.

Last night, I read the third installment of Spider-Men, and ZOMG PETER GOES TO SEE AUNT MAY. OH MY HEART.

Also, I hope he excoriates ultimate!Cap if they ever meet, because he deserves it. Keep him far, far away from Miles, because Miles is a precious baby who doesn't need an asshole like ultimate!Cap being a douche to him the way he was to ultimate!Peter...

Yeah, I'm never getting over that. Sigh.

I also read Avenging Spider-Man whatever number, the new one with Carol Danvers. The 'villain' lady kind of reminded me of Misfit. I kept waiting for her to shout DARK VENGEANCE.

I still want a book about Steph and Cass and Charlie and Black Alice, and maybe Tam can come along for the ride, too.

Anyway, I am considering buying the new Captain Marvel on an ongoing basis just to support a book with a female lead, because they like to spout some bullshit about how female characters can't carry books or movies and then they tell us they're making Ant-man, which, just. No. SAY NO TO ANT-MAN. HE IS A WASTE OF SPACE. GIVE ME A BLACK WIDOW MOVIE INSTEAD. Or a Black Panther movie with Chiwetel Ejiofor as T'Challa. Or a Heroes for Hire movie. With Idris Elba as Luke Cage and Daniel Henney as Danny Rand.

I might have a lot of feelings about this. Ahem. Stupid comics. I always knew it would be an awful thing to get involved with. I avoided it for years. Sigh. I still blame Jensen Ackles.

I have to note that Isaiah Mustafa (the Old Spice guy) has been campaigning for a chance to play Luke Cage, and I am 100% in support of that.

Jensen is responsible for everything!

I'm kinda considering buying Captain Marvel too. I liked Kelly Sue DeConnick's run on Supergirl so I'm feeling positive about it.

There are still so FEW of them :(

Oh man, that would've been awesome, She wrote them both so damn well. Ugh, Marvel. Have you read any of her novels? They are pretty patchy. There are a couple I adored and several that I couldn't even finish.

Shadow Touch was great, dark and tense and real (for a paranormal romance) but others have been eh.

♥ Bucky/Natasha. The restaurant scene was so them and also Bucky waiting for Natasha to rescue herself.

Do you have to have read Tiger Eye to read Shadow Touch? Is it only loosely a series?

Only loosely, and I think consensus is that _Shadow Touch_ is the better place to start (and the best of them).

Good to know. I might check it out. I'm not the most critical of reader so who knows, I might even like the rest of them. I could do without the absolutely ridiculous covers, though. Why do they do that to books?!

Fic aside, you should totally read X-23 at some point. So good. Some really tough stuff (and as I said above, I'm not a terribly critical reader) but I love that character a lot.

You're welcome! Although it could be a tough choice for people who are interested in fantasy--also on the 18th Erin Morgenstern (The Night Circus) and Lev Grossman will be at McNally Jackson Books (52 Prince St) at 7 pm.

I think I've read those Tessa Dare books, and liked the second one better than the first too (also because I didn't really think Spindle's Cove needed to have more men in it for 'balance' when it was originally designed to be a sanctuary for women (some of whom are lesbians (or otherwise queer or really not looking for man), surely, not that mainstream romance will go for that)). And I always seem to want to like her books more than I end up liking them.

I would be okay Lucy Liu for Danny Rand. (Or someone Chinese/Chinese Am, though I suppose if he's of Asian descent that's more than I would imagine ever actually happening. In which case, I'd throw Ilram Choi (tw: blood/violence; it's a youtube compilation of the stuff he's been in, usually as a stunt double or background character) into the casting mix, because he probably wouldn't be a worse actor than Daniel Henney, and can totally do his own stunts.)

Also, someone on twitter said Marjorie Liu pitched a book with Black Widow, X23, Elektra and Mystique, and was told it wouldn't sell. :(

I would watch that Black Panther film so hard. SO HARD. I just cannot stop boggling at the idea of the Ant-man movie. I ... just ... why?

Janet face-time would be awesome. I just find Ant-man so amazingly boring. There are so many way more interesting characters they could make a film about, and they choose Ant-Man?

Agreed! Especially the part about Ant-Man, he is the worst. But Luke Cage! I <3 Luke Cage! And Daniel Henney, I would give anything to see a superhero movie starring him, I thought I was the only one :P

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Robyn seemed a lot like Vengeance!

Really enjoyed that issue, though, and looking forward to the next and Captain Marvel #1. Note-perfect Carol and note-perfect Peter both!
