musesfool: time team! (time won't give me time)

'cause we seem to understand the urgency

I'm dyeing my greys purple again so I figured I'd use the waiting time to post about s3 of Umbrella Academy, which I finished. I enjoyed it overall, though like the previous two seasons, it did have some uneven bits.

So much time spent on the bland Sloane/Luther romance when they could have been giving the surviving Sparrows - mostly Fei - some personality and depth! On the plus side, the reset rid Luther of those horrible gorilla arms prosthetics which will hopefully stay gone if there's a 4th season.

What even was the point of Christopher?

I was afraid they were going to soften Hargreeves up in a way that I couldn't stand, but no, even after his father-son bonding road trip with Klaus - where he killed him repeatedly!!! - he's still just as terrible as always, killing both Luther and Klaus to bring the team together.

Five has grown on me a lot. His team up with Lila was great. His road trip to Amish country with Klaus was great. They did some good mixing up the characters this time around, letting other dynamics play out.

I really felt for Allison, and her killing Harlan was bad but I can see why she did it, but what she did to Luther was pretty unforgivable. He forgave her, but man, that was horrifying.

Diego and Lila are going to be parents?!?! Hopefully seeing their fucked up parents will make them better at it, but I have my doubts.

I'm not sure how there can be a 4th season if none of them have their powers, unless there's a whole other group with powers they have to confront? Also, Allison got to slot back into the life she had - even better, with Ray there rather than the dude she was divorcing - but the rest of them are walking into lives they know nothing about. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd watch an episode of them fumbling through whatever normal lives this iteration of them has, but you can't make a whole season of a superhero soap opera out of that.

I definitely missed Kate Walsh's Handler - I thought she might be the lady in the turban and sunglasses at the hotel they kept showing, but I guess not, since she never stepped up to do anything. As villains go, the Kugelblitz was not particularly interesting. Good to see Julian Richings as the concierge though.

This season also reminded me in some ways of Fringe, though wackier and less sad, and a little bit of 12 Monkeys, but maybe that was just the use of "I've Had the Time of My Life."

So I'd probably rate it slightly better than season 1 but not as good as season 2.
