MY WEBCOMIC IS ONLINE NOW!!
Jun. 16th, 2026 10:25 pmIt's called Fragmentation! Please read it or I'll cry!
It's about being a lesbian teenager in a closed Soviet city on the verge of the collapse of the Soviet Union... on the site of the Tunguska event, which causes Strange Things to happen in town and gives the teenage lesbian protagonist glimpses of her terrifying future.
The first few pages look like this!

If your comic is crowdfunded, you might like the Rose and Bay Awards. There's a category for Webcomics.

Re: Thoughts
Date: 2026-06-17 06:11 pm (UTC)That is awesome. I've taken Russian language in high school and college, and I visited the former Soviet Union in high school. Russia was interesting, but I liked Georgia a lot better. I came down the stairs half-asleep, someone said what I assume was "Good morning" in Georgian, I parroted it, and next thing I knew they were all attached to me and the Russian tour guide was furious with all of us. :D
>> This isn't even my first comic exploring homophobia in Russia, my grad school thesis project used the rusalka legend and a Russian American girl visiting her grandmother's village to look at this subject from a different angle.<<
I've read rusalka stories.
>> I didn't just choose this setting for the vibes lol I've thought about it very seriously.<<
I suspected as much but wasn't sure, so thanks for the confirmation.
>> My comic is not crowdfunded, but thanks for the info! <<
This is where I'd usually suggest adding a crowdfunded element, but given the specific background of this storyline, that's harder than usual. Then again, Russia's misbehavior has a LOT of attention on it, making it easier to find people from that part of the world or who have studied it because they're pretty much all talking about it. With that kind of audience you could probably pull off at least an occasional crowdfunding activity.

Date: 2026-06-18 01:09 am (UTC)If you'd like to see the rusalka comic I turned in as my thesis, it can be found here. I was considering reworking it for traditional publication, but ended up shelving it for now, I'm just not that excited about the idea at the moment.
I'm not really interested in crowdfunding activities for this webcomic, thank you! I like my current setup where the complete first chapter is available for paid download if anyone is interested, so I don't have to expend a lot of effort on fulfillment goals or anything like that.
