Community Description:A community for the Monkey Island adventure game series.
This community is dedicated to the beloved and influential adventure game series Monkey Island, featuring the comedic swashbuckling adventures of the improbably-named Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate™. Six games in the series proper have so far been released from 1990 through 2022, plus a Tall Tale expansion for the pirate MMORPG Sea of Thieves, titled The Legend of Monkey Island, in 2023.

Posting Guidelines

Conduct
Pirates aren't exactly known for their manners, but you're going to have to be a bit nicer than that here. I want this to be a chill and fun place to knock back a grog and nerd out. Don't be sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, or engage in any other kind of derogatory or hateful speech. Don't be a jerk. Remember that the person on the other end of the internet is indeed a person. And please don't spend a lot of time boring us with why X game in the series is The Worst Ever, Actually, or is Just Monkey Island Fanfic And Not Really Canon. It's okay not to like something, but getting snooty about it does not make a good time for everyone. (And using "fanfic" as a pejorative like that is really going to get up your mod's nose, I'm telling you right now.)

What to post
Anything about Monkey Island is fair game: your own fanworks (art, fic, videos, games, music, cosplay, memes/silliness, whatever), recs of others' fanworks, livestreams/let's-plays, discussions, news and articles, tips for messing about in the game resources or scripting, requests for hints, screenshots, all that good stuff. It's okay to post about things that you are selling, but don't do it too often; once a month or so is plenty.

What NOT to post
1. AI generated content of any kind. No, not even to point and laugh at how weird it is.
2. Links to where to pirate (ha ha) the games, or soliciting such links. If you really want to do that, they're not hard to find these days.
3. Other games that aren't Monkey Island, unless it's somehow related (e.g., Easter eggs or references made in other games). This includes other projects of people who have been involved in making Monkey Island: please don't post about Psychonauts, Duke Grabowski, Thimbleweed Park, etc. unless it's got something to do with Monkey Island directly.

Formatting your post
1. If your post is more than a few hundred words long, or includes a large image more than 900px wide or high, or multiple images that add up to more than that, put it behind a cut: What is a cut? How can I hide part of my entry behind a cut?
2. Use the appropriate tags for your post.
3. Don't format text in specific colors. You don't know what other people's Reading Page themes are like and the text may become unreadable. If you use Dreamwidth's Rich Text Editor for writing your post, be careful when pasting in text from another website or something like a Google or Word document; this can carry formatting like text color along without you doing it deliberately.

Adult content policy
The adult content setting for the community as a whole is "suitable for everyone". However, adult content is permitted. You must:
1. Use a cut tag if the adult content is within the body of the post. (Linking to an external site is OK to have outside a cut.)
2. Use the per-post Age Restriction setting and choose "Age 18+".
3. Describe the nature of the content so people know what to expect if they click.

Enforcement
You will receive two warnings. Upon a third incident, your posting privileges will be suspended for 2 weeks. Further violations will result in being banned from the community.
