if you have no hope for humanity that sucks for you i guess. but i was buying melatonin at the corner store and the stranger behind me in line said everyone they knew had been having trouble sleeping recently and maybe it was the cold weather. and the cashier swore he was a chronic insomniac before he met his wife but he hadn’t tossed and turned in 10 years. and when i left we told each other to sleep well tonight. and that’s enough hope to sustain me for at least a few months.

Male privilege is not just the privilege of people treating you nicely or not following you in the street. Even if we assume every trans man passes perfectly and no one knows they are trans they still don't have most of the privileges that a cis man has.

Trans men don't have the privilege of

Being able to travel to different countries

Being able to get daily healthcare

Not being assaulted in prision

Not being institutionalized in mental health facilities

Having clothes, car seats, ect designed for our bodies

Being able to play professional sports

Using the bathroom without worry

Showing people our baby photos

Being able to talk to extended family

Not being disowned

Getting trans specific health care (hysterectomys, top surgery, phallo/meta) easily or at all

Posting photos online and having people internet stalk us to find out our dead name and pre transition photos

Being able to buy binders

Being raped and forced to carry a pregnancy to term due to abortion bans and abusive partners

Getting and keeping full time employment

I would have had way more privilege as a cis (white) woman than I do now as a (white) trans man. Sure sometimes trans men have situational privileges the examples I experience the most is not getting catcalled (unless they clock me) or being taken more seriously in college classes then cis women (unless the prof clocks me) but in exchange for that I am at constant risk of being put into a fucking concentration camp and killed by the us government because we live in a fascist country and I'm a tr@#ny communist.

“Ghoulia has scoliosis” but what do y’all actually know. here are my headcanons that are so self indulgent

  • she has combined scoliosis, she definitely has multiple curves
  • her thoracic curve is above 50°, I would say maybe even closer to 60°
  • she used to wear a brace, it was decorated with red and black detailing and probably had some cute skulls on it
  • i know none of the girls wear backpacks despite them being in high school, but I know if Ghoulia wore a backpack she would only wear it on one specific shoulder because it would always fall off the other one because her shoulders are on an angle
  • she also has a twisted spine so her ribcage is uneven as well
  • she prefers to wear sports bras because they actually fit her body
  • Cleo helps her pick out outfits that suit her depending on the day (what tops hide her curves if she’s feeling insecure, what tops hide her brace if she’s wearing it, what outfits would show off her scar if she had surgery, etc)
  • if she wore a brace she would be like “hey Heath punch me!” and he would do it because he’s a fool and he would hurt his hand

I ran an Aliens rpg years back. But the players didn't KNOW it was an Aliens game until halfway through the first session.

They thought it was a sci-fi game but they also thought the monsters were going to be zombies.

Over a period of 2 hours they then proceeded to make EVERY Aliens movie cliche "mistake" known to man. Because at the time they all made sense.

The characters in a story don't know they're in a story or what kind of story it is.

They might think their in a romcom instead of a slasher movie. And if you're not in a slasher movie, why the fuck would you search through every closet in your house just because a cup mysteriously fell off a table in the dining room?

Characters in a murder mystery should have some fairly good clues they're in a murder mystery.

Though admittedly at least one character doesn't find out in time.

Hey so I'm gonna be very very honest here.

And this is going to make a lot of people very angry to hear.

But a lot of y'all on this website are truly deeply genuinely never going to be capable of any kind of real narrative analysis--and I don't mean 'being right all the time' I mean 'meaningfully engaging with the text in any way'--

Because you are, fundamentally, incapable of comprehending that writers usually do things on purpose.

mylordshesacactus

The themes are there on...purpose.

The match cuts were meticulously designed and put there to communicate something.

The VA's delivery of a line was being directed. Inflection and tone change the meaning of dialogue. This is intentional. There are entire teams of people shaping those choices and deciding which take to use based on what works best for the story.

Information is being revealed in a specific order, on purpose, to craft an emotional arc and guide the audience's understanding.

A character's romantic preferences are only, and SHOULD only be, their primary motivation if the genre is romance. That is why there is a genre called that. Most stories are other genres.

Creators who dislike a character generally give them LESS attention, MORE boring storylines, and LESS screentime.

Sometimes curtains are just blue. But if the shot composition or written narration takes time to HIGHLIGHT, especially more than once, that the curtains are blue, then the blueness of the curtains is by definition narratively important.

"Cite your sources" is not a witch's curse that banishes People With Different Opinions to the shadowrealm of Being Wrong. Someone making points that challenge your perceptions, while including screenshots and explicit examples, cannot be dismissed with "cite your sources" because they are literally doing that. Don't @ me on this one I've seen shit in the wars, y'all.

Failing to understand these things WILL bar you from ever really engaging with or understanding any narrative more complicated than Paw Patrol for the rest of your life.

I am very sorry if that makes you angry.
