Hello! I'm new to the community.
So, i was just wondering if maybe
i could get some suggestions on some
other 'mindfucking' films.
The genre-esque type of movies i'm looking
for are something along the lines of
sion sono film ex)
01) Strange Circus
02) Noriko's dinner table(Noriko no Shokutaku)
03) Suicide Club
04) Dans ma Peau

Anyways any suggestions of films like this
or even films unlike this would be greatly
appreciated!

hey guys

I'm a new member, and I was wondering what you all thought of "Welcome to the Doll House" and if anyone had any similar movies they might recommend.

JMac and I went to see Zack and Miri Make A Porno - Kevin Smith is a genius. I really do love that man. Now, I didn't laugh quite as much as I did in Clerks 2 but I laughed tons. The "she frosted me like a cupcake" scene - wow. I will never be able to view a Mac vs. PC ad the same way, ever again. Ever. There is an Easter egg in the credits. So very much fun.

Ed and His Dead Mother - quirky zombie movie with a bit of a twist - sort of a funny Pet Cemetary. Great cast: Steve Buscemi, Ned Beatty, Miriam Margolyes and lots of other familiar faces. Well worth the rental.

George Carlin died yesterday at age 71. George has made me laugh until I've cried on several occasions. He will be missed. The world just lost one of the greats, and will not be the same without him.

Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired

I'm not a big Polanski fan (I know, sacrilege) and yet I was curious about what actually went down with his legal troubles in the States.  If you too are curious, I would definitely recommend checking this documentary out. It's on HBO (on demand) right now but I'm sure there will be a DVD eventually. It has tons of interesting footage and interviews with all the key players. It gets a little bit boggy in some areas but overall I think it gave a pretty clear picture of what happened. And who knew he was such a sexy beast? Well, Sharon Tate for one I suppose.

update.

well, since the response to our weekly games was less than enthusiastic, we haven't really bothered keeping up with them. they probably won't be a weekly thing anymore, but we'll post some every now and then. thank you to those who did play.

we really need more posts in this community. even a simple "such & such movie was good" will suffice.

with that said...

-hulk and iron man were awesome. both a must for fans of the comics.

-the strangers was really good. excellent music, decent acting. it was a little slow, but good horror films are really hard to come by. its based off true events, so everything is practical, which added a lot to the movie.

-i'm really impressed with the new breed of comedies that have been steadily rolling out over the last couple years. one can only take so much frat boy humor. movies like 40 year old virgin, knocked up, superbad, juno... all winners. check 'em out. seth rogan is hilarious. can't wait for pineapple express.

-sweeney todd was a total disappointment for me. i expect a lot out of tim burton/johnny depp collaborations, but this just wasn't up to par with past movies. the music wasn't anything special. helena bonham carter cannot sing... at all. the plot was dull and predictable. if you are into tim burton movies, i'd rent it, but otherwise i'd pass this one up.

on another note...

people who do not know how to conduct themselves in a movie theater are retarded. don't text. don't talk. it's simple. while watching the strangers, my gal and i had to endure endless interruptions throughout the entire fucking movie. i understand whispering something to a neighbor or having to take an important call out in the hallway and i can put up with obnoxious laughter during comedies, and i can put up with senseless shrieking during horror films (it's expected), but i can't deal with "THIS BITCH IS DUMB!" or "THIS MOVIE'S SCURRY!" for two hours. you're surrounded by other people who're trying to watch the movie and don't give a shit about what irrelevent thought enters your skull. i'm sure its some sort of revelation for an idea to enter these people's heads and they just have to share it with the world, but we really don't care. so there's no need to share with the entire audience. if you can't act like a decent human being for a couple hours, stay home, watch t.v.

Speed Racer = Awesome. I loved it. I am an unapologetic Speed Racer fan. I can swee why people might not like it, more on that later. There was some perfect casting. John Goodman as Pops Racer, Christina Ricci as Trixie and Mathew Fox as Racer X. They are amazing and perfect. Wow.

No this is not great cinema. No it isn't the most amazing thing for the summer. It doesn't have state of the art effects. However it is amazingly true to the original source material. I was a great fan of the series when I was young. JMac hated the cartoon but really liked the movie, so make of that what you will.

If you have problems with visually induced motion sickness - do not go. If you have problems with bright pulsing, flashing lights - do not go. If you have problems with people who ignore the laws of physics when making movies - do not go.

I have more to sayCollapse )
