A week ago or so, a song came into play and ever since, I keep hearing it. Yesterday it played twice on different stations on my way home from work, and then again this morning when I first woke (about 4:30 CT). Scanning LJ, a thought occurred to me about the lyrics of the song, and how true it is for some folks. I am one of those...

zerotwofan, forgive me, but you are another. *smile* These are for you... my fellow fool.

Gundam Wing - Heero/Duo:

I found him sitting on a park bench, staring at the pond, his hands or maybe his feet - I couldn't tell. The late evening sun had faded, and between a few stars and a distant lamp post, there wasn’t enough light to see him well, but I thought I knew. Under the bulky jacket he wore, his shoulders slumped, and if his head dipped any lower, his chin would be resting on his knees. Watching for a few minutes longer, I took a deep breath and stepped closer.

“Duo,” I said quietly and sat near him without touching. He didn’t look up, but slouched further down not saying a word. “You didn’t have to leave.”

He laughed then, a harsh almost bitter sounding thing. “Think you would have stayed?” He shot me a quick glance before staring at his hands again.

Shrugging easily enough, I answered, “I probably would have picked a better situation in the first place.” Another glance with flash of a slight smile attached this time. “It most definitely wouldn’t have been in front of Relena or her brother.” His shoulders straightened. “Wufei - maybe.” He lifted his head and I could see the smile hinting on his lips. “But only you would say something like that in front of a thousand complete strangers.”

Though it was low, this time his laugh held amusement and none of the self-loathing from before. “Yeah, I’m a real fool.”

I slid closer; our shoulders met and I shoved mine into his gently. “No, Duo,” I told him softly. “If your words are true, there’s nothing foolish about them.” He looked at me, then, and nodded. Standing, I held my hand out to him. “Come on, let’s go home.”

“What about you?” Duo stared at my hand without making a move to take it.

“I’ve been a fool for awhile now.” It took a moment for the idea to sink in, and Duo laughed once more. His hand in mine, he stood and threw an arm around my shoulders.

“Let’s go home, Heero.”

Kyou Kara Maou - Yuuri/Wolfram:

In the middle of the room, he stood; body rigid with hands fisted to each side, his eyes dark with a glare that belied his words. Three slow heartbeats later, he ducked his head with twin spots like flames on his pale skin.

Frozen with his back pressing into the ornate table, the Maou still had his fingers touching his lips, his eyes wide and his ears ringing with the shouted declaration.

“I’m a fool.” Wolfram’s voice was barely audible. “It’s obvious you don’t share…”

Yuuri acted on the instinct that had lead him through many events in this world. With his hand over the young noble’s mouth, he shushed him. When blue eyes met black, Yuuri smiled. “I might not exactly share the same feelings, but…” he dropped his hand with a shrug. “I’ve gotten used to having you around.”

His brows still drawn tight, his eyes lost their darkness. “I am your fiancé. You had better get used to more than just having me around,” his tone became more imperious as his chin rose.

Waving a hand in the air, Yuuri hadn’t lost his smile. “It’s late now. We can discuss it in the morning.”

Wolfram gave him a searching look before returning to bed. The Maou’s late night entrance had jarred him from sleep a few short minutes ago; the ensuing repetitive argument resulted in his sudden pronouncement.

Yuuri straightened his pajamas and climbed in on his side; Wolfram lay in the middle, facing him. “Fiancé or not, I refuse to get used to you taking all the blankets and your snoring!” He put a little extra vim in his tone.

Stiffening instantly, Wolfram rolled over, dragging the blankets with him and grumbling insults under his breath.

Barely waiting for the pink-clad back to even out its movement in sleep, Yuuri stretched out on his half of the large bed, his hands tucked up behind his head. He cast a quick glance at his fiancé, closed his eyes and smiled. Life was returning to normal.

Oh, and the song ... here's a bit of lyrics:

Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can’t help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
Would it be a sin
If I can’t help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can’t help falling in love with you
