World's Greatest Shave

Goodbye, my friend.

On Saturday, the world ended. My dog, Nipper, died.
He had been lethargic for a couple of days, which I had attributed to other things, but for the first time in three years, he didn't jump up on me when I walked through the door.
I contacted Yuumei who came over straight away (it was his birthday party, which I'd come home to change for). He, too, knew instantly something was wrong.
We took him to Livingstone Rd Animal Hospital, (we assumed it to be non-life-threatening, and I sent Yuumei back to the party) who saw him about 6pm, and determined him to be anaemic. A blood sample indicated that his red cells were being damaged and clumping visibly on the slide, causing his heart rate and respiration to accelerate due to lack of oxygen. The vet immediately informed me that Nipper would need an urgent transfusion, and directed us to SASH (Small Animal Specialist Hospital) at North Ryde.
Yuumei came back and we rocketed over to North Ryde. Upon arrival, we were advised that even with a transfusion, his chances were slim, and that due to the blood clumping issue, the risk of stroke was high. In addition, treatment would cost between $4000-6000.
Throughout this, Nipper was getting weaker, and more obviously suffering. We asked the vet to be very clear, and she admitted that she was suggesting that Nipper be euthanised.
Yuumei and I took time to discuss it. He called the Fox, I called my mother. We were all crushed to reach the same conclusion.
Shortly before 9pm, we went to a quiet room, where Nipper was given an injection of sedative and heparinised saline. Yuumei and I held him until he was gone.

And lo! My stress, anxiety AND depression have spiked today. Maybe it's time to consider a complete life change. I'll have a rich and successful one, please, with a side order of uncomplicated, and a cute, considerate guy on top.
