Senior Piano Recital
YPAS (Main Stage Theatre)
May 8, 2007
7:30

Lindsay Hynes, Claire Kotheimer, and Miko Shepherd will be performing solo and ensemble pieces (including a six-hand piece! Yup, all three of us at one piano.)

Please come to support us, see us in pretty dresses, cheer us on, and bring us flowers (food and/or large checks are also acceptable.)

Love and thanks in advance,

Lindsay, Claire, and Miko

P.S. Really, the flowers are optional; seeing lots of familiar faces in the audience is what we want most of all!

Darfur Awareness Week

Hey guys! I'm plugging for a really awesome event that's about to hit Manual. Our Amnesty International group is planning an Awareness Week for the genocide currently occurring in Darfur.

As we speak, a horrendous genocide is taking place in the Darfur region of western Sudan. Men are being castrated, women are being raped, and children are left orphaned. Over the last three years, over 400,000 people have been killed; more than 2 million civilians have been forced to flee their homes. They now live in camps in Sudan or neighboring Chad. More than 3.5 million men, women, and children are completely reliant on international aid for survival. Food and water are scarce in the camps, and sanitation is of least priority. The refugees are dying of violence, starvation, and dehydration.

What can you do to help? Help us draw attention to Darfur on March 19-23!
On 3/19, AI will be working with Crimson Crafters to sell Save Darfur balloons for $1.00. The profits from these balloons will be shared between Manual's special needs program and AI's collection for the World Food Programme.

On 3/20, wear green for Darfur! Also, encourage your teachers to dedicate part of your class to letter writing to your congressmen.

On 3/21, make your own screenprinted Save Darfur t-shirt! I'll give more info on this soon if anyone's interested.

On 3/22. AI is organizing a top-secret LIE DOWN for Darfur between 1st and 2nd blocks. We're asking everyone to please spread the word about this and don't let the staff in on it!! Top secret!

On 3/23, join AI in the auditorium at 2:30 to watch a special documentary called "Escape from Darfur" and then discuss the doc with the creator!

Finally...
Manual’s chapter of the global organization Amnesty International is planning a benefit concert to raise money for relief for refugees of Darfur. The concert, entitled JAMnesty, will take place on Saturday, March 24 from 5-12:30. It will be held at The Temple’s Klein Center, which is located at the corner of Brownsboro Rd. and Lime Kiln Lane. The lineup will feature about 10 bands, including Cabin, John Gage, members of Hog Operation, Telescope, Serpent Wisdom, the River City Drum Corp, and more. A door charge will not be required, but there will be a suggested donation of at least $10, or $5 for students.

Manual’s chapter of Amnesty International, which is entirely run by students, has teamed up with the Kentuckiana Interfaith Taskforce on Darfur to bring relief to these refugees. All proceeds of the event will go to the World Food Programme, which is a sect of the United Nations and is currently the largest supplier of food relief to Darfur.

Please help us save Darfur!
