various personal stuff
Oct. 24th, 2025 04:47 pmThursday last week i discovered that the local public library holds bi-monthly workshops aimed primarily at elderly residents from a nearby retirement home but open to anyone and set during school hours so not really for children
this one was saltdough
i did a couple of leaf- and flower-shaped christmas tree ornaments and a little teddy bear ♥
there was a second saltdough workshop Saturday morning, this time mainly for children but still open to everyone
i just came in to put the finishing touches on my teddy (clean-up the muzzle and ears, add sequins for the nose & tongue), re-glue a couple of sequins that fallen off a flower, and many make a new leaf ornament
but as there weren't children at first i got roped into mixing dough (oh we did lovely shades of candy pink and pale green~)
and encouraged to play again
so uh yeah: several more leaves and flowers, and a little lizard (because yes my teddy bear needed a lizard friend)
(here: https://www.tumblr.com/maluron/798301066528718848/ones-never-too-old-to-make-saltdough-figures-when)
and i'm left wanting to make even more
on Sunday there was creator's market at the bouldering gym
i almost didn't go--i wanted to but the friend that was supposed to join me postponed it until i was so tired of waiting i had to pull myself by the meatphorical bootstraps
i'm glad i did in the end: i got a stegosaurus shaped glittery brooch
this Monday's drawing session went badly; people kept shaking the table
and "yeah but not on purpose" is an excuse? gee, thanks for not being an asshole that destroys people's drawings on purpose, i guess!
Tuesday--urgh--i went to a presentation for a formation for fire safety and videosurveillance installation & maintenance
there were 2 spots still free out of 12
i took a test and did a quick interview
then i completed my application for the electrician school; the interview was scheduled for Friday
Wednesday morning i finally reclaimed my "blue" level at the bouldering gym; go me!!
then in the afternoon i went to Ikea with a friend to browse for bookshelves
also got an otter plushie for another friend
today i was supposed to have a video interview for the electrician school, but it got cancelled at the last minute rha
I'll try again next Monday
but! i got a discovery day at a lab that does water quality analyses in a nearby town in november?
fingers crossed!
and!
i had an awesome dream this morning
(there's been less unhinged dreams lately and i'm glad for this one)
it took place at Starfleet Academy
a science class in an old fashioned lab with white ceramic labbenches and everyone in white labcoats
a grumpy old teacher
students of several different species, including a couple of brothers from a three-sex species
humanoid, their hair colour strongly but not perfectly tied to physical sex (pink for males, blue for females, green for third sex?)
the youngest one in the class was a genius much younger than his peers (like maybe 12/13-yo versus 17/18 by human standards?)
and his older brothers were very proud to have him with them
their prejudiced teacher only used to two-sex male/female species, intersex and nb-phobic physically separated his class in groups for male, female and others
because of the little guy's slender build, short stature, very youthful face, and pink hair so bright it looked dyed instead of natural, teach insists my protagonist go to the female side; he *might* accept "other" but it's clear that the little guy will face discrimination either way
(boooo that's not up to Starfleet standards, booo!!)
this is where it gets really good: guy answers "oh well then let me fetch the
(quick dreamer, you need to name a scifi medical device)
...the babblegenerator"
(oh no you should have thought "technoscanner"; but whatever)
strongly implies he's indeed a biological male and can prove it by displaying his gonads with a medical tricorder
but there still is a slight possibility he was born third-sex and chose his gender as male, bluffing his way
either way, i'm proud of you little alien OC that my brain made up
and i hope you have a very successful career in Starfleet Science ♥

Date: 2025-10-25 03:33 pm (UTC)Ah ha, no, it's kiddie-level arts&craft. The dough is not unedible but there's a lot of salt in it; little children and elderly grandmas should be supervised so they don't eat it. (Not gonna lie, once we mixed food-grade dyes in it looked like marzipan or fondant so the urge to nibble on it was all the harder to fight.)
(2 parts flour, 1 part tablesalt, 1 part lukewarm water, mix until playdough-textured; once you're happy with your crafting it can be oven-baked in low heat for like 3 hours, or microwaved on defrost setting for 15-20 minutes by 3-4 minutes implement depending on the size and shape)
