IV. fic excerpts! I have been, as you possibly know, working on that James/Michael thing tentatively entitled the Continuation of Doom, which is the next big story arc that follows the Universe of Porn, and I blame you all for encouraging me to do this. Well, I THINK that went well--at least, there was a very good number of people in the audience, and they were amused by my jokes (they even got the Doctor Who jokes!), and some of them asked questions after, and one of my grad-school friends (actually, Broadsword Friend!) came up to me after and proclaimed, "I wanted to ask you a question but I couldn't think of anything because it all made so much sense!" Which I believe is a good thing.
Also, someone asked me to sign a copy of my book. Which is always going to be all kinds of startling and flattering and exciting.
And then friends took me out to dinner, and we had champagne and chocolate-almond pudding pie (because it was also Pi Day!). And then I came home to find that the fabulous raffi had made me gorgeous Erik/Charles medieval-AU art! For which I wrote comment!fic, naturally. (Thank you again, my dear, you're wonderful! Totally the best reward for academic endeavors!)
And THANK YOU to everyone who said nice things when I was nervous about this! You guys are the BEST EVER. *hugs*
Um, as a measure of gratitude, want some tiny tidbits from works-in-progress? The Erik/Charles one is this month's holiday fic, which is Easter, which of course means obligatory-sex-pollen-trope-fic. The James/Michael one is from something I'm working on for little_werewolf, who requested something with kids, and somehow this turned into sick!James and Michael being forced to babysit Brendan...
I just want you to know that I completely blame this on raffi and her exceedingly inspirational James/Michael comment!fic over here. And also this isn't finished; it's still very first-draft, and there's a second bit of this coming, when I get around to it. But I thought you all might appreciate it, after all of the Emotional Fic Things I've been posting (see: yesterday's installment of Porn + Hurt/Comfort).
So...have some fic in which there is shirtless Michael, a bizarre game of gay chicken, misunderstandings, and a lot of vodka. Tentative title and opening lines from The Kooks' "Sway."

Sorry, sorry, real-life busyness. Among them, these things: my left knee STILL hurts (twelve days later, after the Death-Defying Dive out of the path of the Car of Doom), and also my body has decided that it is Girl Time of the month a week early and without any warning, such that I woke up yesterday, made a noise something like 'oh-god-no-please-go-find-me-advil-NOW!' at Awesome Husband, and then collapsed into a pathetic ball. (I'm starting to be afraid that this is a new thing; something similar happened last month, too. WHY, BODY.)
Some other things: might be going to England again in September! China Mieville-themed conference in London. I want very badly to go, but the state of our finances may prevent it. We'll see. Also, am giving a guest lecture on Welsh mythology and popular culture next week. To science fiction scholars. I'm still not quite sure how that happened.
Three quick fic recs, all different fandoms, followed, at the end, by an excerpt of the next thing I'm working on, under the cut:
Erik/Charles (X-Men): This Is The End, My Only Friend, The End by alernun. Maybe R-rated for the intense thematic elements, but not for language or sex or anything. Beautiful, lyrical, post-movie, post-apocalyptic piece in which Erik and Charles are the only survivors, and Erik tries his best to be there for Charles, and the ending will make you cry. But in a good way.
Hawkeye/Coulson (Avengers): In The Backseat by sirona_gs. NC-17. Am copying her description here, because it pretty much covers everything, but you should read if you love character-exploration stories; anyway, elements of D/s, bondage, subspace, object insertion, discussion of death (in the line of duty) and trust, freely given, and fluff.
Sam/Dean (Supernatural): Into The World Breathes Life by checkthemargins. Eventually NC-17, for content and sex. This one is a bit long; set aside some time, but for everyone who's been unsatisfied by this season, SO worth it. Author's description says sex, language, mass angst, implied non-con (Lucifer/Sam), suicidal ideation (Dean), crazy!Sam, spoilers for 7.13 and 7.14; I would add: love in so many forms, Sam and Dean trying to protect each other, emotions, misunderstandings, love.
And now, with preemptive apologies that this STILL isn't finished, on my part, have a bit of the missing story from the Epic James/Michael Porn-and-Emotional-Trauma Saga, which I've FINALLY gotten back to (for the record, this is the one that fits in between Need and Touch):

Shall be visiting my parents most of the weekend (Mom has tickets to Young Frankenstein: The Musical), but, before then, want a tidbit of the Erik/Charles hurt/comfort Thing With Porn? This will be mostly the same as the excerpts so far, only put together, but there're a couple of new paragraphs at the end.

Second, I hope you all had a lovely Tuesday (or Valentine's Day, or whatever holiday you want to make it). Awesome Husband bought me a pair of Rebel Alliance insignia earrings AND a new sonic screwdriver (River Song's) AND a plush U.S.S. Enterprise (classic, of course). We now have more sonic screwdrivers than people living in our apartment. *grin* (For the record, I bought him Batman and Green Lantern Lego sets and a TankBot. The TankBot has scared the cat every time, so far. Yeah, we're geeks, but you all know that!)
Third, I have finally updated the masterlist! It should include everything now, even the most recent Erik/Charles holiday fic from two days ago (Halloween).
Fourth, I am a bad person and might be writing this prompt from the kink meme. I didn't mean to. I just kind of...had an idea for how that story would go, and...um, yeah. Sorry?
Fifth, am working on the next James p.o.v. thing, the sequel to Like A Song You Still Know... Excerpt under the cut, and by excerpt I mean nearly the whole thing, at least this part. There'll be a tiny bit more. Working title from the Dropkick Murphys ("The Only Road")
