it's really corny and you kind of wish it was more balls to the wall and had the DIY energy of a toxic avenger or john waters movie. there's a better more imaginative version of this where there were more non-actors playing to the rafters or having fun with their delivery, rather than the po-faced register some actors seem to be playing to like they were on true detective.

things this movie reminds me of:
-that transcendent summer spent watching twin peaks: the return
-gregory crewdson photography
-working seasonal at a toys r' us in it's last year of operation and any sort of rosy childhood memories I had of it being smirched by chode managers
-having a lesbian cousin that was 4 years older who had anime (tenchi muyo, hellsing) scrolls on her walls, i'd watch play final fantasy 10, and would borrow (steal temporarily) her MCR cds.
-all those friendships you made as a teen online with people from tumblr that deactivated one day out of the blue never to be seen again
