Wanda
Watched

At first, it might seem like Barbara Loden’s film is retreading the plot of Bonnie and Clyde, but that impression is misleading. Loden fundamentally refuses to romanticize her characters.

Wanda - is an ordinary housewife who simply doesn’t know what she wants. Life under the American standards of the 1970s is so empty and monotonous that she runs away to nowhere, just anywhere to escape the familiar. Uneducated, rough around the edges, and passive, she drifts through life, even when…

Carrie
Rewatched

In the same year as "Obsession", Brian De Palma directs Carrie the first screen adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel. The director transforms the book into a drama about society’s rejection and stigmatization of the “Another,” which culminates in a monstrous act of revenge.

The lead role is played by the then almost unknown Sissy Spacek. Her natural, freckled charm and subtle performance make you believe that Carrie is unaware of both her beauty and her power.

One of the…

We're the Millers
★★★½ Rewatched

After watching Colossal , I was scrolling through Jason Sudeikis filmography and saw We’re the Millers, so I decided to rewatch it immediately.
And honestly, even on rewatch, this movie is still really cringe... but in the best possible way.

Colossal

In Colossal people’s destructive behavior literally materializes in the form of giant monsters destroying Seoul. It’s a clever and visually striking metaphor that immediately grabs you.

Unfortunately, the film doesn’t fully live up to this idea. The first half does a strong job building a story about alcoholism and self-destruction through the main character, Gloria. The monster appears exactly when she drinks and perfectly symbolizes the chaos she brings into her own life and the lives of others.
However, in…

The Vanishing
★★★★ Rewatched

I’m not a big fan of rewatching movies. On a second viewing, I usually lose interest because I already know all the major twists and details.
But The Vanishing was genuinely interesting to watch even the second time.

First of all, I really admire how this film constantly subverts the audience’s expectations, and it does so on every level.
The official synopsis tells you it’s a story about a man named Rex searching for his kidnapped girlfriend Saskia. But that…

Benny's Video
★★★½ Watched

Benny’s Video is a harsh and merciless examination of how media shapes human consciousness. The protagonist, a teenager named Benny, is obsessed with his video camera. He records almost every moment of his life, turning reality into mere footage.
The film reaches its climax with a shocking, ice-cold act of violence that Benny calmly captures, an act that becomes the central focus of the story.

However, the real power of the film lies deeper. Haneke poses deeply uncomfortable questions about…
