The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
★★★½ Liked Watched

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” doesn't exactly push boundaries, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do: Make a crap-ton of money and leave audiences entertained enough to show up for the next, inevitable chapter.

Where the film comes up short is in its lack of ambition. Nintendo continues to treat these characters as untouchable icons rather than evolving protagonists. No one really struggles. No one meaningfully changes.

And I mean that as a compliment.

A messy, grotesque, unforgettable masterpiece - Babylon is beautiful for its ugliness, and easily one of the best films of the year.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
★★½ Watched

It’s hard to overstate Tom Cruise’s impact on Hollywood. A megastar, a master of his craft, and a madman when it comes to Mission: Impossible. But with The Final Reckoning, the franchise doesn't go out with a bang. It sputters through nearly two hours of exposition before finally catching fire.

The third act delivers some of the best action the series has to offer, but the first two hours are a slog. Overcomplicated, bloated, and emotionally flat, it feels like…
