Grisebach's film was one of two films in the competition that I expected something from. Fortunately, both films delivered on every front even though I was sceptical during the first 45 minutes or so.

When the pieces of the puzzle come together, it's obvious that we have a great film on our hands. The third best of the entire festival.

Not terrible, but mostly rehashed themes from other Dupieux films, not least Fumer fait tousser, and frankly boring.

Beau is Afraid should have been enough, but if Eddington doesn't convince people that Ari Aster is a hack, nothing will—attempts at satire on the level of Altman at his worst.

Eddington is the fourth feature by Ari Aster but his first to compete in the Cannes Film Festival. I guess I wasn’t alone in thinking that this would be the long-awaited film about the doctor Mark Eddington from Alain Resnais’ Providence (1977)—no such luck.
