Still as perfect today as it was when I first saw it twenty years ago. The focus on characters melded with exhilarating action, great performances, palpable tension in the poker sequences, and clever dialogue makes this consistently engaging through its run time.

The opener is still awe inducing and the end? Chefs kiss. The perfect set up for one of cinemas most famous lines. The slow build up of the classic theme throughout the film towards the crescendo into its entirety at the end is still unmatched.

Firstly the film has a share of pacing issues, primarily in the quite boring, quite clunky first act. The characters are there seemingly so we can get into the Backrooms with some lore reveals I thought were interesting and wished were explored more.

Whether this movie offends you. Whether it disturbs you. This is life. This is a film solely through one mans eyes his reality altered by the society he is a part of. The film asks nothing of you other than to merely observe and reflect. It makes you sympathize but then it frightens you. It never justifies death but doesn’t necessarily reprimand it. The film plays the shades of grays in situations those with a sense of…
