Other than a somewhat clunky first act and some pacing issues, definitely lives up to its online counterpart and adds some new ideas to the Backrooms lore.
There is a big character leap that may or may not be divisive (depending if you buy into the characters psychology — didn’t really land for me personally). But shoutout to Kane for a solid directorial debut !
PS this movie bears a striking structural resemblance to “Barbarian” and I’m not mad at that
Bigger, bolder & more expensive than the first film, but never truly ventures into “cash grab sequel” territory. Not quite as visually intriguing as the first movie, but the overall style remains.
Naomi Scott shines with a tense performance that spirals into disaster. She sings, dances, and experiences bouts of pure madness effortlessly — the range is fully on display.
(Also I’m pretty sure the soundtrack samples her screams but I’m too afraid to listen to it by myself)
The only question is: how tf do you follow up that ending?
