“You’re looking for your father… but you don’t know who your mother is.” One of the only films that has left me sitting in silence, heart racing, well past the credits. A horrific picture painted by a masterful artist in Villeneuve. You and whose army?

12 Angry Men

This movie captures the true spirit of the American justice system. It’s a masterclass in critical thinking, empathy, and the power of asking the right questions — qualities that are sorely lacking in this day and age.

Even more incredible, this movie manages to paint such a powerful picture through simplicity. There are no flashy effects or awe-inspiring action sequences, just twelve men in a single room and the power of dialogue. From that simplicity comes the intensity and focus of a timeless film.

A couple memorable scenes but overall a very scattered movie that isn’t that enjoyable.

It’s really difficult to do horror well, so I’m doubly impressed with Obsession, produced on a relatively small budget and excellent across the board. It does a good job of getting you to let your guard down, and it avoids horror clichés for the most part. Inde Navarrete delivers an amazing performance that really shapes the film, sporting exceptional control of facial expressions and emotion. Overall, an extremely strong start to the summer and a great horror movie.
