On this rewatch I stopped lying to myself and admitted that its probably my favorite SRK I've seen so far and one of my all time favorites, so endlessly charming and bubbly and colorful and human its truly spectacular how young Shah Rukh and director Shah keep finding ways to melt your heart in increasingly creative scenarios and that too with such an obviously low budget. Family drama has rarely felt this effortless. Narayanan just lets the actors do their thing, lets the drama come naturally by letting each scene breathe and controls it just enough to where no one thread overpowers or weighs down the film and the result speaks for itself. It is an incredible showcase for so many fine actors, and one can easily imagine this being unbearable in the hands of a different debut director very preoccupied with proving themselves in some way (cough* Tourist family), yet Narayanan's direction remains very confident and selfless.

Nothing i hate more than a director who cuts right when things are getting interesting, all the worst instincts from barbarian are still here, and funnily enough the subtext this time is explained away with a literal flashing object in the sky. Just awful/embarassing stuff and completely emblematic of so many issues with cinema and horror cinema especially today. Also, hollywood directors its not funny anymore please hire a damn gaffer , i actually can't see anything for 40% of your movie
