Hahaha hell yeah, something about The Visitor's trippy, artsy visual style and gleefully campy plot really hit. When this segues early on from some mysterious alien messianic religion to a basketball game filmed with the same mystic reverence, I cackled and knew I'd be in for a good time.

Not finding the rom-com aspect of this amusing at all really caps my enjoyment of this, and the extremely goofy dub doesn't really do the humor any favors. Michelle Yeoh kicks all sorts of ass in this though, with some real clever and inventive fight scenes. Baby Donnie Yen is here too. Good martial arts movie, mid comedy.

90 minutes of simmering repression: bored colonialists in a land strange to them, but these aren't bureaucrats. they're soldiers who take up a physical space and yearn to do physical things but there's no outlet, no combat for the French Foreign Legion stationed in a placid, pleasant Djibouti. where does that energy go? it seeps out like steam from teapot but the truth is there's no way to really let it out without getting killed yourself. maybe just dance instead.
