TEDDY’S TOP 100 MARATHON - #72
Been sitting here for an hour thinking of a way in to writing a big profound piece about this. And if I sat here for a while longer I think it would probably have something to do with how this movie treats history and nostalgia.
But the words really aren’t coming to me, this is a great big wondrous thing, it’s best to just soak in it. And I’m mostly just grateful that my two favourite actors of the 21st century share this screen together.
How can you not be romantic about showbiz?
Writing final essay on this could prove interesting decision. Trying to take notes and just caught myself every few minutes slipping into “Hell yeah” mode.
Wouldn’t be surprised if I just go into a fugue state and realise at the end I have written 2000 words that all just say “WITNESS ME” Jack Torrance style.

Not really the movie I wanted after being instantly sold on the trailer (not to mention the rapturous reactions).
While this movie is undoubtedly pretty humorous, I think the blumhouse-isms of trying to make this a gnarlier affair kinda work against it.
I think a version of this that’s like 30% more restrained, less face stabbing, less of Navaratte’s shrieking and weeping (which is not in any way a slight to the fantastically entertaining stuff she’s doing) and more letting…
