My sister wanted to watch this so I did. Not a huge fan of a music biopic anyways but something about this felt a bit sinister; the movie made a comment on the exploitation of Michael by his father, but is also a large posthumous money making endeavour by his family ? He was also a lot more complex than this and it all felt quite shiny and shallow…
Also, I hate how movies look these days the whole appearance…

JEMIMA HAS A FILM ON LETTERBOXD?!!! what a special movie born out of the girlbossing of Jemima Chen the woman she is.
Most impactful part to me were the silences and the unsaid and the way this movie looked and moved which was absolutely incredible. I was, however, at points left wanting more storytelling through the lens, more intimacy, and sometimes a different pacing - but perhaps the lack of this nuanced the narrative and truly reflected the deep repression of these two men. Still, I am blown away and brimming with pride :)
As I flew from East coast to West, I indulged in this absolutely wonderful film. I can’t really fault it; my mind feels like it’s been simultaneously tickled and expanded. This really is cinema. WHY DID HE GET THE OSACR FOR ANORA NOT THIs?? As someone who has recently left a job where writing about the importance of play for children was under my remit, certain scenes really did satisfy me. Child like wonder and sparkiness is amazing :) 🌈
