Rob Zombie's portrayal of black metal is somehow even goofier than actual black metal.
It's interesting to see a psychopathic protagonist have so many human flaws in a film. There's nothing to glamorize or romanticize here, like you often see in films with charismatic, intelligent, competent, and oftentimes good looking serial killers.
He's in impulse city, being overwhelmed to the point of panic, clumsily falling over things, and ruminating about his past traumas. We get this unsettling view into mental illness caused by childhood conditioning, which has created this monster that can't control himself.…
A very somber film.
