“It was the Boogeyman.”
“As a matter of fact it was.”

John Carpenter started the slasher craze with this film and it’s easy to see why. With this he created Michael Myers, who is more than a killer (at least in this entry); Michael serves as a stand in for what we fear. He is emotionless, silent, and his motivations are unknown. Michael is that ever present danger and we get so many great scenes we get of him lurking just out…

The Ultimate Experience in Grueling Terror

This is, hands down, my favorite film. Not just horror film, but film… and this viewing only solidified that. This film is an experience; it’s visceral, cruel, tension filled and unrelenting! From the very start Evil is lurking and trying to influence things, but once it’s unleashed… we are on a roller coaster of dread, disgust, and despair. Sam Raimi somehow manages to keep ramping up the suspense until the very end, all the while…

A Stylishly Thrill Ride

Michael Mann proves why he is considered one of best directors with this. With such a simple premise, he manages to make this suspenseful and thrilling throughout. Also, this has such an incredible style to it, the cinematography of LA at night is stunning, and the music just helps pull it altogether to create a unique mood. Plus, let’s not forget Tom Cruise‘s powerhouse performance that cares this just as much as Mann’s direction. Tom is…

A Tale of Two Halves

This had so much potential, with its excellent cast and an interesting plot… but it fails to live up to it. Honestly, the first hour of this is really strong, but then this slows down and flounders everything it sets up. It’s really strange, because I see what they were going for, but this just can’t make the growing unease and moral quandary land. Plus, the characters motivations also change in the third act with…

Holy! Fucking! Shit!

The hype is real. This film freaked me the fuck out multiple times, literally made my jaw drop, and left me feeling traumatized.

I recently heard Curry Barker referred to as horror’s new wunderkind and I kind of have to agree. This film is genius! Curry takes the magical, grounds it in something very relatable, and then focuses on how it affects everyday people. His writing manages to keep escalating the uncomfortableness, anxiety, dread, insanity, and tragedy. All…

“Let's demonetize this bitch!“

Basically, this takes the humor of The Evil Dead 2 and places it in within the horror of Grave Encounters. Amazingly, directors Joseph Winter and Vanessa Winter manage to get the balance of horror and comedy right, allowing both to be present and neither to detract from the other. The story is simple and believable enough, with the influencer angle adding a nice modern twist. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the way this cleverly handled its exposition. Also, I thought the special effects were pretty cool and I appreciate their ability to work with the overall tone of the film.
