Went in with 0 expectations and was kinda blown away. Visually amazing, feels aggressively stylistic at times which I really like. Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor are SO good in this. Goes to some gonzo places that I love, especially towards the end. Characters could've been more developed and some stunted dialogue at times, but god damn I loved this more than I had any right to. So happy it was an actual, really competent movie instead of something skibidi liminal analogue horror ending explained.
How the hell have I only just now watched this??? This is everything to me.
I love the themes of consumerism as being destructive to childhood, how it strips people of theirselves and. How finding love in rivers and frogs and pigs and weird little guys is excellent, and nurturing that love is a source of healing. Both for yourself, and for the world around you. It's so heartfelt and from such a warm, genuine place. Ghibli films like this…
One of the weirdest movies I've seen. Lot of pacing issues with super important plot details being told out of order from flashbacks, and sometimes gets so psychedelic that it loses me. But what is here is fascinating and strange and inspiring and I can't help but love it. Fucking madness.
