kinda repetitive, awkward and blunt exposition ("wow i sure am haunted by that one race"), lots of glowy lines for characters to say catchphrases in front of. yes i am very interested in Manhattan Cafe please show me more Manhattan Cafe

critics are calling it one of the most visually impressive phallocentric smorgasbords on offer. there is a foiled rape scene 10 minutes into the movie and i had no patience for any of the glib anus humour in the next 80 mins after that. imo yuasa has no chops to deal with any of the exploitation the characters beyond a dialectic of the bully and the bullied/cuck porn logic, which makes all later attempts at sincerity very hollow to me. finally the montage halfway through of trains entering tunnels made my eyes roll back so hard that i need a new prescription now. yucky viewing experience

I thought this was a hilarious and genuinely upsetting movie to watch, at the same time, not necessarily in a bad way. If you can stomach watching a rapist catholic cop fingerfuck a twink's open wound from a torture pseudo-lobotomy, watch it. The acting is delightful and you too can experience the sexual ride the film takes you on, fall in love with its characters and surprising tenderness, and then realize in the post-orgasmic glow that it all might be a lot more shallow than you thought. Maybe I'm just too much of a lesbian for this movie.
