There are some charming moments and overall amazing documentary value, but it mostly settles for surface-level gags about cultural differences. Very occasionally, it gets close to some interesting questions about identity and class, but never spells them out.

For me this concept is really only scary on a cellphone screen with earplugs even laptop might be too big. Catching up on this made me appreciate more how brilliantly it transformed into a cinematic experience that’s entirely different psychologically. Redoing the same thing on a real set is cool but what fascinates me more is how calm and composed it gets outside the found footage segments. hmmm I don’t know about this one. Crafting such a character is a delicate art form, and Tim Robinson just isn't in the same league as Nathan Fielder or David Cross. I’m unfamiliar with his work but judged on this alone I suspect he’s a bit of an asshole and hasn’t lived that crushing insecurity of not looking cool or fitting in. Half of the time it feels wrong to laugh at a character this broken when there’s not much to either love or hate about him, he’s just broken and loud.
Only somewhat amused for a few scenes while staying mildly annoyed the rest of the time, and the aftertaste keeps getting more rancid. It pretty much lost me 10 minutes in when the dude doesn’t even take time to mourn his cat, then it carried on pretending it's saying something interesting about relationships when it’s literally just witchcraft and the guy knows it.
