What a dark little film this was. Action scenes on point, even if the acting was overwrought (I know, I know), and always nice to see some Rothrock. Also appreciate the courage to have that ending. Oof.
The most emotionally devastating film I've seen in some time. Thoughtful and emotionally complex where less confident films would be over-dramatic and overwrought. Captures a sense of helplessness and hopelessness that's absolutely heartbreaking, and there's one shot near the end that literally made me gasp.

I absolutely adore this. The meta humor, the specific references, the pitch-perfect portrayals of both pretentious director and clueless film critic, it sets things up perfectly so that when things get truly bizarre, there's a quality backbone to build upon. Really the best thing I've seen from Fantastic Fest thing year.
Actually having TWO leads that can act makes all the difference in the world, and there are moments this feels like an actual movie, not something spit into a Christmas-formula machine. It's quite good for a HMCM (though by actual movie standards, maybe not so much). Now, to see the other seventy HMCM's that Chabert has made this year.
