The original and probably still the best Be Gay, Do Crime.

The Wachowskis' cinematic imagination — like their love for leather — feels nearly fully developed in their first film. So many great little details, like the way the muffled sound of mobsters slowly draws Corky to her toilet to eavesdrop through the pipes, until a sudden drop of blood diffusing in the water draws us fully into the adjacent room.

The Wachoswksi's conviction, evident throughout their filmography, that the…

RRR

It's true there isn't much suspense or plot development, but it was stylish and funny enough to hold my attention as a ritualistic group self-immolation.

A Quiet Place: Day One

Ironically the guy next to me wouldn't stop talking, and loudly cursed me out when I politely asked if he could at least whisper. Sadly nothing burst through the ceiling.

There's a grain of an interesting idea here. Von Trier's Melancholia featured a seemingly unstable lead character who feels her world is ending, who suddenly becomes the only sane person in a world that is actually ending. This attempts to bring a similarly sidelong arthouse premise to a mainstream alien…
