It has its moments but none of them top the opening scene. The hints of self-awareness are cute but don't do much to alleviate how paint-by-numbers this feels. I'd like to be more sympathetic but I think it would stem from my personal distaste for AI more so than actual appreciation.
A straightforward but very admirable movie about identity and culture that plays as a depressing alternate universe Nirvanna the Band episode. Even if the character analysis and commentary might be a bit muddy, it's elevated by some evocative moments that do well to communicate the pain and isolation when your own self-expression is rejected for not being cool or beautiful enough.
