Been a good month for creepy films with great jumpscares, but this also had so many moments that hit like a punch in the stomach (or a brick to the face)...

Trace Lysette was one of the most memorable people in Transparent and is also fantastic here. Would be great to see her in more stuff.

I felt very detached watching this, it never felt like there were any real stakes or consequences.

Ian McKellen is of course great, but the character is one we've seen before... I have tonnes of respect for Michaela Coel but she was just giving me nothing here and I'm always very upset to be reminded that James Corden exists.

It just didn't sing.

As my only previous experience of Godzilla was the Chewits adverts I probably wouldn't have seen this on the big screen had it not been this week's Mubi film.
However, while I could have done with a wee bit more of the monster, two hours zipped by pretty fast.
Also learned that deep sea fish look like giant, pulled out eyeballs, so there's that.
