Shockingly good first feature. Romvari obvious ball knower.
Caught it at the hottest no AC-ass IFC screening of all time and having to sit in heat with 200 of my closest friends and a movie that ruminates beautifully on memory, loss, and acceptance felt especially poignant.
Loved it!
The best movie about being a little clout chasing freak of all time!!!
I loved this. A truly singular and epic film. It’s as funny as it is striking and resonate and rich. Every single time there’s a brief lull it’s immediately followed by one of the most beautiful scenes, the most beautiful set piece or the most beautiful individual shot you’ve ever seen.
Kubrick is so successful at making Barry Lyndon as despicable as possible in one scene and sympathetic and almost lovable in the next. Masterful shit.
Hmm. I think this movie works really well on a technical level, the sound is great and it looks great. Really liked the needle drops (Silver Apples!) Some moments are really thrilling and both Kirsten Dunst and Cailee Spaeny whip ass. Jesse Plemons is throwing 101 mph and perfectly placing the ball in the corner of the zone in his scene. Magnificent work.
Ultimately though, I can't help but think about how vacuous it is. It doesn't really say much…
