Like Lenin and the Bolsheviks once did, Ted, Audrey, and Grammy Norma effectively catalyze the revolutionary liberation of Thneedville from the grips or the O’Hare corporation by illustrating the internal contradictions of capitalism and building class consciousness among the masses. As the subject-object of history, they are finally able to grasp the totality of society by confronting historicity itself (symbolized by the barren, once lush “outside,” or the area beyond the city walls) and they sow the seeds of a better world in the town square.
