Is this a good movie? Absolutely not.
Was it entertaining on a return flight from San Francisco where I heard about model welfare and prophetic claims of AI? Absolutely.
My favorite of Hustwit’s films (I wasn’t a big fan of Helvetica) because he finally puts the spotlight on people, for which design is both by and for, instead of concepts and helps illuminate their personalities, motivations, idiosyncrasies. I just wish Hustwit let a little more innate curiosity drive the narrative—sometimes, and especially with Helvetica, he seems motivated to create a film because he likes the topic, not because he wants to understand it—but perhaps that’s okay?
I did leave…
You cannot wipe the smile off of my face when watching this movie. Unbridled fun.
