Much like the first, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie acts as a spectacular ninety-minute light-show. Ironically, this comic adventure beyond the stars feels more empty than the first. This is obviously a way to fast-track another 'cinematic universe' right when this trope has lost steam with audiences. Thankfully I was just intoxicated enough to allow myself to get lost in the colorful visual noise. The star things were kinda cute though.
Causality loops, alternate timelines, a techno-dystopian wasteland, and multiple distinct on-screen variations of the phallus sure makes for an interesting experience.
I was enamored with the original look and feel of Junk Head, with all the grime, cement, and fleshy metal bits. The absurd-ism is dialed up in this continuation.. although calling it that doesn't feel right.

Stylistically incoherent, obnoxiously cynical, and insulting to every demographic it attempts to court. I'm sure Warner Bros will make their money back purely on viral marketing and name recognition. But it really saddens me that in an era of rugpulls, scams, and con-men that something like this is allowed to rake in the dough.
