If you like folk music and getting punched in the gut repeatedly then this movie is for you!
Also this had to have HEAVILY influenced Marty Supreme

Was expecting some sort of light Raiders-esque adventure movie but was pleasantly surprised with the serious tone and dark themes like the corrupting power of wealth and the resulting greed and paranoia from its pursuit. Also loved so many of the technical aspects: lighting, blocking, camerawork. The night scenes with the way they utilized shadows, the blocking with multiple characters at different depths of frame but still displaying the expressions we’re meant to see, and the camera moving more than I expected for the 40s (zooming in, panning, moving with a character that’s walking)
How does one even conceive of this?
Also maybe my favorite opening scene ever
