Honestly, as insane as it is that the Academy didn’t nominate De Niro for 21 years after handing over a nod for “Cape Fear” (including snubs for “Heat” and “Wag the Dog”), had I voted for him, I too would need a long hard look in the mirror before trusting my judgement on that front again.
First half pretty good. Second half embarrassing. Lacks the courage to actually test its convictions. Robert Mitchum stealth MVP.
“Jacked Jabba Jr.” is the new “nipples on the Batsuit” — it’s the only thing we’ll remember about this movie in a year, and we already wish it never happened.
