The horse chase becomes a car chase becomes a horse/car/[redacted] chase and the crowd goes wild! Maybe biased because it’s the only truly fun movie I’ve seen at Cannes but I think many people will flip for this one
Contains one lights-out sequence in which Javier Bardem’s director goes stern and mean on his cast with a fit of the giggles, but because one of the actors is also his daughter there’s so many more layers of parent-child tension and what happens when dad’s mood changes the entire weather around him. Most of the rest of the film is more muted and less engaging than I’d hoped, but boy that scene!
If I were told I could write “Highway 61 Revisited” but that it would hurt the feelings of Pete Seeger, the nicest man alive… I think I’d keep that siren whistle in my pocket.
