The film portrays the moral discomfort and emotional oppression of a provincial Greece deeply rooted in a patriarchal mindset, that thrives to this day. From the son who cannot leave his family home and endures the contempt of those around him, to the daughter who cannot freely enjoy her love, and the mother who cannot confront her husband even when her actions are not in line with her own conscience.
