Wasn’t expecting this—was just expecting to see a literal version of the Hans Christian Andersen story—but this was much better. Smarter. Modern. Cultured.

Moira Shearer was made for/by this role. The dedication to using actual dancers in all the roles makes it a work of art.

Making the audience hold on static, close-up shots of the two women singing at each other for a full 4 minutes straight was pure torture. The rest of the movie wasn't easy on the eyes, either. Ariana should get a medal for carrying the move on her (bedazzled) shoulders.
