This plays out a lot like a travelogue promoting the French Riviera, and, honestly, is there a better way to promote any place than by having Cary Grant and Grace Kelly go on an adventure there in various different outfits? I think people forget Grant wasn’t just an ideal Hitchcock leading man because he was suave and attractive – crucially, he was also very funny. Some lovely gags and set pieces in this. And the supporting cast, especially Brigitte Auber, are all in top form.

There’s just the right amount of plot in this to fit around Eddie Murphy’s rapid-fire gags. No exposition dumps, no “here’s my plan” monologues from the bad guy. A delightful movie, with a well chosen voice cast, though O’Toole is the standout. I appreciated that it takes the time to show how much practice it takes for Remy to skillfully pilot Alfredo by the hair but doesn’t waste any time whatsoever trying to explain how on earth it actually works. It’s a tricky line to walk, but definitely the right one.

Also, I appreciated how realistic the ending was. Strange to say of a movie about a rat…
