Recently seen for the first time, it was one of those classics that I’d never caught, I think due in part to a posturing avoidance of “romantic” and “mainstream” films at the time I first heard of it, in my mid teens but mostly due to my associating it with that appalling song by Deep Blue Something which was everywhere for a bit when I was 16 and fomented a vitriolic reaction to the concept of this film.
