Time to Investigate! - Vincent Valentine and the Infirmary
Inter-Infirmary Memo Left in Casper Darling's Patient Records [Infirmary Staff Only]
Attached to the file involving the diagnosis, tests and recorded injuries of this incident is a memo from Vincent Valentine.
Per his warden's request, patient is to be treated for these injuries with the bare minimum to make a full recovery. For those with Earth backgrounds, a baseline of 'modern medicine from 20th and 21st century', with any necessary advanced care in magic, alchemy or future technology to ensure pain management, wound care and eventual full recovery.
To paraphrase, "Darling broke himself, he needs to actively learn there are consequences for his actions." Direct inquiries to the Knight. Keep in mind it is a being who is not familiar with human anatomy. I have given the Knight some structure. They may need more extended explanation but is willing to learn. You can direct any need to translate its intention to active care to me.
-Vincent Valentine
PS: If you need a definition of 20th or 21st century earth technology, I can also be contacted for a brief overview.
[ooc: Feel free to 'call' using this post to respond or seek him out for one on one. ]
The man has learned many cultures over the last couple years on the Barge while trying to corral the varying levels of medical tech in the Infirmary.
For those who read the full medical record, mention of Varker's breakdown (not in detail) and care turnover to Norton will have been mentioned, as well as Vincent taking charge of Darling's intake, initial treatment and wound care along with the chorebot (who is also programmed for medical care) named Cookie. Naturally, it will focus on the care methods, medicines administered, and handover to the doctor who next took charge. Names of others who may have been involved or have also experienced the death are purposefully left out. This is, after all, Darling's medical record.
To Tendi - [Audio, Network, Private]
Tendi are you available for medical?
[ He knows it isn't her department per se anymore, so this much be something important. ]
To Shaw - [Audio, Network/Spam, Private]
[ After he hands over Darling to another's care. ]
Shaw? I need to talk with you. About your inmate. Christina Brand.
I. General Spam, AKA Darling is in for some tests, Vincent goes out for Investigation [ OTA ]
Though Vincent will be a busy person for these next few hours. He only has one direct name; so there's no hunt for Trevor or Ger going down and even if he knew those names - oh he likely will - were part of the investigation, he might not directly confront them.
That doesn't mean he can't run into anyone going from one place to another; despite the communicator and his introverted nature, he is still a man who feels important conversations should be largely done in person. Catch him outside of the infirmary to ask questions, maybe cause him to pause catching something. It's all right here and an option as he travels through various parts of the ship.

Spam, Later Investigation maybe?
However, after he'd been stabbed full of holes and discovered to his consternation that dead flesh does not heal, he pokes his head in and lifts up his shirt, showing the marks a broken bottle made.
"Hey, I'm gonna need a needle and thread. And, uh. Stuffing, apparently? Maybe gauze."
After he's gotten the tape from Darling and a playback device then?
He looks up at Trevor's entry. Then down to scan the displayed problem.
"Hm." Yup. That's certainly needing something. "That a recent problem?"
Honestly, with undead flesh it's hard to tell how 'new' a wound is. Also, couldn't have been Vincent's (temp) inmate of the month. Surely.
"Need to report someone?"
Vincent rises from his seat. Thanks to Darling and... well, his general knowledge of supply locations, he's already familiar with the place the suture kits are kept. But he extends one hand, the one with the clawed gauntlet, and points at a patient table.
"Gauze is a stopgap. At best."
You know, for stuffing. Don't ask why he even thought to look into that knowledge in the first place.
Sounds good to me!
He walks over to sit, without commenting on the reporting. Trevor debated about it before deciding it was funnier to keep people guessing.
"Wen Ning uses it for his corpse ass. Gotta be less itchy than straw, and I don't want bugs growing in me."
Re: Sounds good to me!
...Yup, just going to accept that. Vincent might also suspect it's more than just gauze. There might be solutions soaked in it. Things to keep those bugs away; which is one of the things that had come to mind.
"You still itch?" He returns with the needles and thread. Forceps. And yes, gauze and iodine solution. It can be used for the time being. Pain didn't seem to be a problem.
"That the only spot?" Welcome, Trevor, to 'things Vincent can handle himself'. Iodine's poured into a pan, gauze is added to soak.
cw; body horror
"Nope." No itching, no disease, no rot. And he is full of holes, but it all seems to be centered on his chest and abdomen.
"It's just a lot of little gashes, but it's all on the chest if that's what you mean."

Investigations
So much so that he nearly manages to run into Vincent as he's leaving the infirmary.
Re: Investigations
Arthur is, at least, someone Vincent will check on. And as another warden and with the recent nature of Darling's announcement, it may be worth consulting. Thus, he pauses as he draws near the other man.
"Busy, Arthur?"
Re: Investigations
"Vincent, hey. Not in a specific sense, just." He flaps the notepad. "Thinking about what Darling said, actually. As much as the man annoys people, he's not wrong - if death isn't working on the Barge, something is unusual."
Re: Investigations
"Obviously." There is a pause before he admits. "I spoke with Darling in detail. And the Admiral. Waiting for an answer on whether there was a restriction in place." From the latter, of course. Then Vincent's gaze turns thoughtful.
"Have you heard anything? Before Darling's announcement."

[ That's to say, not dying because of it. ]
I'd like to talk to her about the details. And you to know something had happened.
[ In case Shaw had not, in fact, been told that her inmate had not-quite-got-killed. ]

Re: audio; private
[ That's his bad. He definitely intends to go check up soon. ]
I only got the name after Darling confirmed with her. [ Well the man said he texted. ]
When did this happen? [ There's a short pause. ] Did you know? And. If you knew it should have caused her death. Why didn't you say anything? In general.
[ Names could have been left out. But the 'not dying' part is somewhat important. Still, though Vincent is wondering these questions, the tone indicates he is asking for the facts and speaking plain, because it's Shaw. ]

Spam
Today, she greets Vincent with a look of wry sympathy - she hadn't missed Darling's post, though she'd opted not to weigh in on it. "It sounds like you have been having a busy day."
Re: Spam
His expression lightens seeing her. A bit of dry humor but also the sense of... something. Not quite 'pleased to see a friend' but... he'd intended to look for her? And this is just sooner than expected. Good.
"Beats paperwork." No one should like paperwork. The barge wrenching in half is better than paperwork!
...Probably.
His gaze shifts, looking for signs of anyone else within earshot before settling on Yelena. For the moment they have what seems to be a moment of privacy.
"This might be something he discovered in the last few hours. But..."
It might be something people were aware of a while now. And that means it's been kept among select groups.
"...Mind keeping an ear to the ground? Around inmates especially. But... wardens too."
Vincent ordinarily wouldn't ask for such a breach, even from someone he's come to regard as a companion with the same goal. But this, in its own way, bears the weight of an importance similar to what Trevor was doing.
There's still a choice in his question.
Re: Spam
"I will keep my eyes and ears open," she says. "Are we sure it isn't the Admiral doing this?"
Re: Spam
Vincent will take what Yelena feels comfortable passing on. And... trusts her to understand the pragmatism of the request. The gratitude, therefore, is genuine.
He then nods.
"I contacted him after Darling's post. The Admiral isn't responsible. And it's not a restriction he's placed at a warden's request."
And then, far more quietly, he offers another small piece of information.
"The space between the interior and the hull was blasted open." That is probably well known. "The Admiral agreed to let me take a team back in to look for signs. I want you to come. And B. But... don't share this beyond him."
Vincent plans to speak to B personally. But the important part is this information needs to be kept private for as long as possible.

VERY BELATED Private
Yes, of course, I'm on my way. But- what's happening, Vincent?
Re: VERY BELATED Private
In case you didn't see Darling's post yet, he discovered someone didn't seem to die when an attack should have killed them. He then tested various methods on himself. They failed too.
[ Summary done, moving on! ]
He was encouraging others to test it out and report the results. I've taken care of the initial intake of the injuries that he took on. But there is some internal damage from acid. I want you to take over.
[ So, definitely a series of reasons! ]
...There's a request from his warden. He needs to heal the old fashioned way. No magic. No tech that will instantly recover. Unless it's needed to keep him from suffering or lasting complications.
[ Like the acid thing. Any infection. Painkillers. ]
...I stuck him on an IV. He refused a neck brace. I'd like to keep him tied up with tests for a few hours. Prevent him from causing trouble.
Re: VERY BELATED Private
[She's already had a word with him, and had to talk Cheradenine out of volunteering as a guinea pig. Sigh.]
...I understand. Do you still have some of the equipment Julian brought from our world? It'll be harder without a biobed, but I'll do my best.
Re: VERY BELATED Private
Things that were left in the infirmary, yes. Tricorder, data pads. The sonic shower. [ He had Darling use that. ] No biobed.
[ Vincent makes a mental note though. Might be worth asking about when the Admiral has time to fulfill it. ]
Tendi. [ His tone becomes grave. ] I know the warden's request is asking a lot. If you can compromise and allow it, that's fine. The purpose is to teach Darling consequences, not let him suffer. [ He's seen the wonders of technology to understand what is 'healing of 21th century' is borderline barbaric for people of Tendi's era. ] If you can't, I'll explain it to the Knight. Do what you think is right for you. Let me know what you decide.
[ He then clears his throat. ]
...Though if you can keep him occupied for now. I'd appreciate that much.

For Darling
"If I promise to share all the data with you, will you consent to a medical scan? It's non-invasive."
Re: For Darling
"Do I actually have a choice? Or are you asking just as a formality?"
It's an honest question - something like this could go either way.
Re: For Darling
She keeps her tone kind but firm.
"Externally, it does appear as though your injuries are far less severe than they ought to be, but I'd like to confirm that there's no surprises that I could try to repair for you before they become a major problem." She pauses a moment.
"Vincent did ask me to keep you occupied. I won't pretend he didn't. But as much as I like and respect him, it matters more to me that you feel like you can rely on the Infirmary for your medical needs without your boundaries being violated. So yes. With me, you do have a choice."
Re: For Darling
"I think if I were in extreme suffering, you'd have noticed this by now," Darling points out. "But fine. You can go ahead and do some basic medical tests. It'll be nice to have my theories outright confirmed anyway."
