"I didn't," Lupin said, somewhere between ashamed and indignant.

Black glared. "Then how did they know?"

"You said you turned into a dog all the time in Azkaban," Hermione pointed out sensibly.

Black blinked at her, apparently never having considered that something he did for over a decade might have been noticed.

"If it were me, the first time I did it, I'd've pretended I escaped and replaced myself with a dog," Ron said.

"That wouldn't have worked," Black said.

"Might have been worth a try," Lupin said.
