And we will be at peace

(no subject)

God it's weird to watch really early Stargate episodes and remember that it used to be on Showtime. Oh look, nudity!

In other news, FOB last weekend was fucking awesome and they are the band of my heart.

I brought my camera but only took one picture, Collapse )

I went and saw Fast & Furious this afternoon, and holy shit. No real spoilers, but I see Dom and Brian are still fucking and that the internal logic of the Fast and the Furious universe still makes absolutely no sense unless you assume that. (And Michelle Rodriguez is still hot.)

To make this entry even more all over the place, I went out to the Mojave National Preserve last weekend, Collapse )

Mmm, nature.

Mom was here all this week, which was fun, but of course left me no time to lounge around the internet reading porn. *shakes fist at the world*

We drove up to Great Basin National Park, which is one of the least visited parks in the system - their information proudly informed us that they'd had just under 79,000 visitors last year. The drive out there was really neat - we didn't come in on US-50, but on Utah SR-21, which, well, there was nothing on that road. By nothing, I literally mean nothing. It was like driving through how the country must've looked hundreds or thousands of years ago - the only evidence of human involvement at all was the road and the cows. It was obviously someone's ranching land, as all over about 50 miles of this desolate road were cows. Cows in the mountains, in the valleys, standing in the middle of the road. It was... really kind of cool, actually, aside from the "Dear god there is a pregnant cow standing in the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD" factor.

We had to get gas in the "town" of Baker, which is right outside of Great Basin, and the gas station was, literally, two pumps that took credit cards and a soda machine. No building, no canopy, no one there to watch over anything - just pumps and a soda machine. It was kind of "...okay then."

Great Basin had a cool cave, where none of my pictures came out because they wouldn't let me bring in a tripod and pictures in caves taken with a flash never look good. They also, believe it or not, have a glacier (yes, there is a glacier in Nevada! Bets on how long it'll be there?), but we couldn't get up there because Mom and I discovered that neither of us is quite up to hiking five miles up-mountain at 11,000 ft.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled geeking out.

Whee, pictures!

Some of you know that to fill the art requirement I took a photography class this semester, as it's kind of the only art I can do and the music theory classes didn't count (stupid school, music theory is fun!). I love photography, but man, music theory would've been much better.

So, I might as well share. I apologize for the quality of the scanning - my scanner is about eight years old and ridiculously dusty on the inside, and some of these ended up a bit crooked which I promise is the scanning, not the original mounting. This was a black and white film photography class, so these were all done completely by hand. ...and now that the class is over, I am totally switching back to my digital.
